This is the second consecutive year of McIntyre being involved in an important match at WrestleMania. This time around, he will face the dominant WWE Champion Bobby Lashley for the Championship he won for the first time at last year’s WrestleMania event.

Feeling as though nobody deserved an opportunity to challenge him at the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania, Raw’s WWE Champion Brock Lesnar decided to enter himself into the men’s Royal Rumble match as entrant number one. Lesnar dominated the first half of the match until he was eventually eliminated by “The Scottish Terminator”, who would go on and win the match, thus earning himself a world championship match of his choosing at WrestleMania.

In the main event of night 2 of the event, Brock Lesnar, accompanied by Paul Heyman, defended the WWE Championship against McIntyre. As Lesnar went for a fourth F-5, he countered and performed three more Claymore Kicks on Lesnar to win the title, capturing his first world championship in WWE and becoming the first-ever British-born world champion in WWE history, as well as WWE’s thirty-first Triple Crown champion.

After the show went off the air, he was confronted by Big Show, who he then faced in a title defense described by WWE as the hidden WrestleMania main event. He performed a Claymore Kick on Big Show to retain the title.

HE IS NOT TAKING LASHLEY LIGHTLY

However, McIntyre believes that this time his goal is different. He is not taking Lashley lightly and wants to prove himself yet again and raise the WWE Championship in front of an audience. WrestleMania 37 will be the first WWE event to have a ticketed audience since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I don’t take this match lightly. Like I know Lashley has been working a long time and in the ring and out of the ring, he’s an absolute beast of a man and I am treating it as seriously as you can possibly treat a match. Just like last year, as confident as I am, I’m not gonna go diving in there, looking for claymores within the first minute because I’m sure Lashley is gonna strategy a game plan to catch some submission. Grab my foot or something as I throw it at his face. So yeah, I am treating him with the utmost respect, regardless of my game plan,” he stated.
