He stated, “We strategically brought Corey in at the beginning of the year as part of our reserve driver program.”

On that fateful day at Talladega, chaos erupted on the track. Erik Jones was involved in a multi-car incident that initially included drivers John Hunter Nemechek and Bubba Wallace. The collision sent Jones hard into the wall, leaving him with immediate back pain. Despite the intensity of the crash, Erik Jones managed to communicate with reporters after being released from the infield care center. He described himself as “a little sore” but overall okay.

Jones returned home to the Charlotte, North Carolina area, where further evaluation revealed a compression fracture in a lower vertebra of his back. The severity of the injury necessitated medical attention and sidelined him from the upcoming race at Dover Motor Speedway. Legacy Motor Club, Erik Jones’ team, made the difficult decision to replace him with driver Corey Heim in the No. 43 Toyota for the Dover race.
