The massively popular and critically acclaimed Indiana Jones movie franchise is set to enter the world of gaming through Bethesda, the American video game publisher who has confirmed that title has been in development, featuring a brand new story.
Bethesda collaborating with Lucasfilm Games for a new Indiana Jones story, built from scratch
The game is currently under development at Bethesda’s Machine Games studio, which is famous for the Wolfenstein franchise, in partnership with Lucasfilm Games and will be produced by Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard.
“A new Indiana Jones game with an original story is in development from our studio, @MachineGames, and will be executive produced by Todd Howard, in collaboration with @LucasfilmGames. It’ll be some time before we have more to reveal, but we’re very excited to share today’s news!” Bethesda’s official Twitter handle has revealed, along with a short Teaser clip.
While Bethesda confirmed that the unnamed title will feature a brand new story and won’t recreate any of the movies’ plot, a post on StarWars.com suggested that the game’s storyline will be set “at the height of the career of the famed adventurer” and also hinted that the short teaser clip “may hold some clues” about the plot.
IGN’s Jordan Oloman has taken a closer look at the 33-second teaser on Twitter, which indeed reveal some clue about the game’s synopsis.
The storyline is expected to feature Vatican City, as a map containing the Sistine Chapel is seen in the clip. Moreover, a plane ticket to Rome dated for October 1937 and a Marshall College coffee mug are also noticed on the desk.
The typewriter includes a note and Oloman deciphered out some portions of it, which addresses a “Father X”, followed by “…thank you for taking your time to help me … with this written request… i will be arriving in rome…. i have been informed that your contact will be waiting.”
While there are no information on a possible release date, genre or which platforms it will be released, it is expected that Bethesda will be making their rich open-world formula invested in the title, plus Indiana Jones is expected to take on hordes of Nazis, something MachineGames is an expert to implement, thanks to their experience with the Wolfenstein franchise.
