GTA 6, Rockstar’s next potential entry into the massively successful Grand Theft Auto franchise, is turning out to be one of the most awaited titles of all time, with speculations and developments often making headlines. However, the latest bold claim, made by an established leaker, suggest that GTA 6 will feature, for the first time in the franchise history- a female protagonist.
Prior to the latest entry in the franchise- Grand Theft Auto V, all GTA games only featured male protagonists, while GTA V itself set a new benchmark, bringing in three protagonists together. Although, the series was yet to feature a female lead.
Although most gaming titles bear a male protagonist, there have been female protagonists in many successful releases in the past, such as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn, Senua in Hellblade, Jesse Faden in Control, Faith Connors in Mirror’s Edge and many more.
Leaker claims GTA 6 will feature both female and male lead side by side
While Rockstar is still reaping the benefits from the huge success of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, it is rumoured that GTA 6 is already in development, and the latest leak suggests that the next Grand Theft Auto title will see both a female and a male protagonist together.
The leak was claimed by social media agency Viral Junkie owner and CEO Tom Henderson (TheLongSensation) on Twitter, who wrote: “For the first time ever in a GTA title, GTA 6 will have a playable female and male protagonist. #GTA6 #GTAVI”
While the actual credibility behind Henderson’s statement is arguable, he has made correct predictions in the past, regarding Call of Duty and several other games.
It is likely that the groundbreaking character switching feature from GTA V is expected to make a return in the next title, but how GTA 6 implements the same when having both male and female lead characters will be interesting.
However, until GTA 6 is announced, players can experience the Grand Theft Auto open-world as a female in GTA Online, GTA V’s super popular multiplayer mode which features both male and female character creation.
