One of the primary reasons behind Grand Theft Auto’s massive success in the world of video gaming has been its memorable characters. From the main protagonists, to intriguing side characters, as well as the notorious antagonists, the storyline of GTA games have been remarkable in their portrayal.
The past games have often seen the return of a number of iconic characters from the franchise. From the likes of Claude, the silent protagonist of Grand Theft Auto III who was seen briefly in San Andreas, to the steroid freak Brucie Kibbutz from Grand Theft AUto IV making cameos in GTA V and its online counterpart, and even GTA IV’s expansion The Lost and Damned and Damned protagonist Johnny Klebitz, who’s GTA V appearance was met with an unfortunate turn of events.
Reappearance of any iconic character gives that extra touch of flair in the already staggeringly gripping storylines the GTA games possess, and for the older fans of the franchise, gives that sweet taste of nostalgia. With Grand Theft Auto 6 already rumoured to be in development, here are some memorable characters that the fanbase wants to make a comeback in Rockstar’s next entry into the franchise.
Memorable Grand Theft Auto characters the fanbase wants in GTA 6
1. Tommy Vercetti
If you’re an old GTA fan, you saw this coming from miles away. The playable character from the good old Vice City is one fan favourite, with the hallmark Hawaiian shirt and the Mafioso trait. As Grand Theft Auto 6 is highly speculated to take place in Vice City, Tommy Vercetti is one character that fans are over the top enthusiastic to see return in the next game.
2. CJ aka Carl Johnson
Although GTA V returned to Los Santos, the gun blazing gangster from Grove Street disappointed the fan base for not making a cameo in the storyline. CJ is the favourite protagonist for many GTA fans, and seeing him as an older and wiser man will be a pleasing surprise.
3. Roman Bellic
The annoying but loving cousin of Niko Bellic was one of the funniest characters of GTA IV. The sudden phone calls from Roman has been one of the most memorable moments from the franchise, and would be a great fan service if Rockstar decides to put him back in the next game, with the frequent calls to go ‘bowling’.
4. Yusuf Amir
The wealthy Arabian from GTA IV’s The Ballad of Gay Tony expansion, Yusuf Amir aka ‘The Sultan of Amir’ is one of the most favourite characters of the series. A comeback for the real estate developer with seemingly limitless family wealth, Yusuf’s return in GTA 6 will be amazing, especially as fans are eager to see if he has finally been able to impress his father.
5. Niko Bellic
The ice-cold Serbian protagonist from GTA IV has a gigantic fan base. With a war torn past and coming across the Atlantic for the ‘American Dream’, Niko Bellic is revered as the best GTA character of all time by many. Although a short reference was made to him in GTA V’s singleplayer where Lester said the “eastern European guy” is now retired, Niko Bellic’s return on GTA 6 will be huge plus point.
Honourable mention: Trevor Phillips
The crazy Canadian with an enormous anger issue, Trevor Phillips is one of the greatest GTA characters ever, and has a huge fan following who want to see the GTA V protagonist return in the next title more than anyone, plus to see how big the infamous ‘Trevor Philips Enterprises’ became in future.
