The Dallas Cowboys are making headlines once again, and this time it’s about a potential reunion with star running back Ezekiel Elliott. Ezekiel Elliott, a former All-Pro, played for the Cowboys from 2016 to 2022. During his initial stint in Dallas, he signed a massive six-year, $90 million contract, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history at the time. However, in 2023, the Cowboys released him, and he subsequently joined the New England Patriots on a one-year, $3 million deal. Now, as the Cowboys consider bringing him back, fans wonder what kind of deal he’ll land and what impact he’ll have during his second tenure with the team.

The Potential Deal

Gone are the days of the eye-popping $90 million contract. Elliott won’t be returning to Dallas with a similar megadeal. Instead, he’ll likely sign a more team-friendly contract, given his recent performance and the changing landscape of the league. Expect something closer to the one-year, $3 million deal he had with the Patriots last season. While it won’t break the bank, it should provide the Cowboys with a reliable and experienced option in their backfield.

Zeke Stays in Dallas Cowboys Close In on Deal with Ezekiel Elliott

In 2023, Elliott’s production dipped compared to his earlier seasons. He carried the ball 184 times for 642 yards and scored 3 touchdowns in 17 appearances. These were the lowest rushing numbers of his career. However, he made up for it in the passing game, recording 51 receptions for 313 yards and 2 touchdowns. Notably, these were his best receiving stats since 2020. If he can maintain his versatility and contribute both as a runner and a pass-catcher, he’ll be a valuable asset for the Dallas Cowboys.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has been vocal about his interest in Elliott. When asked if he sees Elliott as a starting running back in the NFL, Jones responded with a resounding “yes” during a press conference. Clearly, Jones believes that Elliott can positively impact the team, both on and off the field. Whether it’s in short-yardage situations or as a reliable target in the passing game, Elliott’s return could provide a much-needed boost to the Dallas Cowboys’ offense.
