Fernando Alonso slams F1 for playing favorites

Fernando Alonso recently came under the microscope after he displayed some unusual behaviour at the track in Russia. He was seen taking the escape route at the first chicane twice – once in the middle of the race and once at the beginning. This has raised certain eyebrows and fans of F1 has questioned whether this was all planned beforehand. Fans are even doubting whether this gave any special advantage to the two time former World Champion. When he was asked about this at the recent news conference, Alonso gave a biting reply. He mentioned that he was expecting to see such questions and this has further confirmed his suspicions that indeed F1 treats players differently when it comes race track behaviours.

Fernando Alonso mentioned that he had himself at the wrong end several times before, when other players blatantly violated the track rules but the authorities did not bat an eye.

“[It was] just to confirm when I do things, they have a different behaviour and a different repercussion on the following event,” Alonso told reporters in Turkey, “so now, maybe they change the run-off area on lap one in the first couple of corners.

“I’ve been the idiot on track for most of the championship while I’ve been overtaken from the outside of the asphalt by many people for the first couple of races.”

Alonso found himself in the same situation at Austria 1 and Austria 2 events, but nothing happened to the players – no ban, no punishment.

“Even in Austria, I remember Austria 1 and Austria 2 and nothing happened. There were no questions at the following race. Now after Sochi, there is a question. It’s a confirmation. There are different rules for different people, or different, let’s say, talks the week after for different people.”

Alonso did not mince his words when he said that the British racers are usually the ones that get a pass from the F1 authorities no matter how many times they violate a rule. He sarcastically mentioned that the next time such an incident happens, the punishment will be dealt with after checking the racer’s nationality.
