Coming after a 3-0 win against Luton Town in the Carabao Cup, Manchester United travelled to the south coast for their first points in the Premier League table this season. Their ambitions fell apart quickly as Brighton were awarded a penalty which Maupay converted with a sensational panenka.
A push on right-back Tariq Lamptey by Bruno Fernandes inside the penalty area prompted referee Chris Kavanaugh to point to the spot instantly.
French striker Neil Maupay stepped up to take the ensuing penalty and sent De Gea the wrong way with a perfectly executed panenka to the left side of the net.

The striker proceeded to rub salt into the wound with the ‘crybaby’ celebration by the corner flag before his teammates joined to celebrate the team’s 1-0 lead.
Maupay’s strike short-lived as Manchester United equalize
Manchester United responded quickly after succumbing to their second penalty in a row in the Premier League. An indirect freekick right at the edge of the area was taken by Bruno Fernandes with only minutes left in the first half.
The Portuguese midfielder floated the ball towards the far post where an unmarked Nemanja Matic slotted the ball in for captain Harry Maguire to finish from point-blank range but was instead put into the net by Brighton centre-back Lewis Dunk for an own goal.
The half concluded with the score at 1-1, with Brighton and Hove Albion arguably on top with their domination in attack and possession. The hosts had the chance of taking the lead early but were denied by posts at the Amex Stadium.
