2016’s Suicide Squad film was written and directed by David Ayer. It was a Box Office success and generated $740 million at the worldwide box office. The film was loved by both fans and critics.

This ultimately led to James Gunn taking charge of The Suicide Squad which is said to be a ”soft reboot” of the 2016 film. The film stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, John Cena as Peacemaker, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark and more.

John Cena spots the differences between the two franchises

The former 16-time World Champion John Cena believes there are differences between the two. He recently spoke to ComicBook.com, and he was asked if the ‘James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy could be rightly compared to Suicide Squad 2. Cena would then go on to explain how the two film franchises. He explained:

“Yeah. So I bet you if they locked the door in this son of a bitch right now, and they kept us here for a month, we’d somehow find a way to co-exist. So I think you can say that for any dynamic. In Suicide Squad, they’re put in penitentiary situations. Even in the penitentiary, where people are there to correct moral wrongdoing, they make a dichotomy, they have sides.”

He added: “So to say that people don’t get along, correct. But then they’re putting in a set of circumstances where the other option is not existing. So if you are faced with death, we’ll get along. And I think that’s an interesting, like that drives the narrative forward really tight. And that’s very well-defined. So I think that’s a cool kind of way to make it.”

Suicide Squad 2 is set to hit the theatres on August 6, 2021.
