The year 2022 has been turning out incredible for the sport of arm wrestling. Just six months in and we have already been treated with spectacular events such as King of the Table 3, East vs West 3 and of course, the massive King of the Table 4 which saw the grand super match of Devon Larratt vs Levan Saginashvili on the headliner.

It has not even been two weeks since the arm wrestling community was treated with the incredible King of the 4 event, which saw Levan Saginashvili demolishing Devon Larratt to a 6-0 victory and while the fandom still remains dazed from KOTT 4.0, we are set to be treated with Monster Factory 2, another top of the line upcoming event, featuring the likes of Michael Todd, John Brzenk, Todd Hutchings, Corey West and many more legendary names on a mouth-watering fight card taking place this 9th July in Arkansas.

Monster Factory 2 Arm Wrestling: Michael Todd returns against Todd Hutchings, John Brzenk takes on Corey West

Monster Michael Todd, one of the household names in the sport, is coming back to the table after featuring in the East vs. West 3 event on 22nd May. The 18-times World and 34 times National champion will be facing the Todd Hutchings, aka the “Toddzilla”, a three time WAL Championship and three time WAL Regional Middleweight champion.

The co-main event will see the return of the iconic John Brzenk against Corey West. Brzenk, a name that needs no introduction, headlined East vs. West 3 event against Zurab Tavberidze. Corey West, one of the most popular arm wrestlers from the USA, was featured on the undercard of KOTT 4.0 against Alex Kurdecha.

A total of ten matches will be played at Monster Factory 2, with only one of them will be Left Hand. The matches will be in a best of five format.

DEVON LARRATT HAS HIS TASK CUT OUT AGAINST HIS FORMIDABLE GEORGIAN OPPONENT

On the 24th episode of the StrongCast podcast, Larratt elaborated on some of the preparatory measures he pursued in order to have a winning chance against Saginashvii, who is generally considered one of the strongest arm wrestlers of all time. While the former member of the Canadian Armed Forces would never possess the same physical strength as Saginashvii – who has been dubbed The Georgian Hulk by fans and press – he would have to focus on his drive and grip, all while trying to exhaust his opponent.

LARRATT DOES NOT SUPPORT RULES SUCH AS THE REFEREE’S GRIP

The June 25, 2022 match is one of the most anticipated encounters in arm wrestling history, and not unlike other combat sports such as Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts, shenanigans are compulsory. Here, too, Larratt and his wife Jodi, question the ruleset of arm wrestling and notes that every rule should be written down in a way that supports the competitors and hinders confusion.

He adds that competitors would always try to gain an advantage, leading to a lack of trust in the referee. If the referee lacks consistency, “the referee’s grip” becomes a frightening rule. It hinders movement and penalties any movement with a foul, which is detrimental to the sport. As Jodi adds, it is also possible for a competitor to fake a movement from their opponent.

Levan Saginashvii had previously commented that he did not care about the rules and was only interested in breaking his opponent’s fighting arm. When asked for an opinion on his opponent’s confident statement, Larratt said that it was typical of someone possessing an impressive amount of strength. In a remarkable metaphor, he then goes on to compare himself with the iceberg that drowned the Titanic.

The history and equipment

A standard darts target, or dartboard, consists of numbers from 1 to 20, arranged in twenty radial sections, along with two Rings- the Double Ring and the Triple Ring. The center of the dartboard has the Bullseye, which is also split into Outer and Inner Bullseye. The well-known circular pattern of dartboards is inspired by the concentric rings of a section of tree trunks, which is also believed to be the earliest dartboards.

There have been many different configurations of dartboards, but the standard pattern is credited to Brian Gamlin, a carpenter from Lancashire who came up with the pattern in 1896 and is speculated to penalize accuracy. There are also variations on how the numbers are placed on the dartboard, with many combinations penalizing a player more than the standard system. A dartboard has to be 451 mm in diameter in accordance with the Darts Regulation Authority.

Before the emergence of purpose-made darts, the game was played using stubs of arrows or crossbow bolts. However, the first darts specific for the game was made of wood, with a strip of led as weight and flights made from split turkey feathers. In 1906, metal barrels were patented and were made from brass which was cheaper to manufacture and were used until the 1970s, when they were slowly replaced by plastic darts. Plastic darts were made by either manufacturing the shaft and flight separately, or together by using a one-piece molded plastic shaft and flight darts.

Scoring in darts

• Hitting a large portion of any numbered sections, coloured in either black or white, scores the point value of that particular section.
• Hitting the outer portions of the numbered sections, coloured either red or green, scores double the point value of that particular section.
• Hitting the inner portions of the numbered sections, coloured either red or green, scores double the point value of that particular section.
• The centre of the dartboard consists of a green outer ring termed ‘outer bull’ and is worth 25 points, and a red or black inner circle which is termed the ‘inner bull’ and is worth 50 points.
• Any dart hitting outside the outer wire scores zero.
• The highest a player can score with three darts is 180, also called a ‘ton 80’, when all three darts hit the inner portion of the 20 section, also called the ‘triple 20’.

Amateur and professional darts

The organizations in darts are split into two, steel-tip and soft-tip. In 1973, the British Darts Organisation (BDO) was founded, which hosted tournaments in the UK and was a member org of World Darts Federation (WDF). However, in 1992, a group of players decided to part ways with the BDO to aim for higher paydays and founded the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), which hosts tournaments and world championships.

In the case of soft-tip, World Soft Darts Association acts as a governing body and its events feature both soft-tip exclusive players, as well as steel-tip players.

In the United States, amateur darts leagues and tournaments and conduted and sanctioned under the American Darts Organization which became active on 1st January 1976 and currently has 250 member clubs and around 50,000 players.

Best players

In 1978, Welsh player Leighton Rees became the first WPD/BPO winner. Former English professional player Phil Taylor, nicknamed ‘The Power’ has been the most dominant player in the sport. The 61-year-old has won an astounding 214 professional tournaments, including 16 World Championships (2 BDO, 14 PDC) and 85 major titles. Trina Gulliver is the most successful female darts player who has been the BDO’s Women’s World Professional Darts Champion ten times.

Lewis Hamilton missed out on winning the title in a questionable manner

Lewis Hamilton had led from the first turn after leapfrogging Verstappen off the line and achieved a comfortable lead at the front. But the safety car was deployed after Williams’ Nicholas Latifi’s crash into the barriers on Lap 52, allowing Red Bull to put fresh tyres on.

The controversy sparked in a moment when the FIA race director Michael Masi told the teams that lapped cars would not be able to overtake, giving Lewis Hamilton a huge advantage. However, that did not last long as they then reversed the decision on Lap 56, allowing only some cars to get back past the safety car, leaving Verstappen right behind Hamilton.

The pair dueled in one of the most tense laps ever seen in the sport until the Dutchman made the pass on the DRS straight.

Geroge Russell is set to join the Mercedes team next year as he will be the replacement of Lewis Hamilton’s team-mate, Valtteri Bottas. Russell gave his thoughts and he did not hold back from speaking his mind. Russell also launched an attack on the FIA, labeling the controversial incident “unacceptable”.

The debatable incident did not sit well with Mercedes as well. They cited a breach of two articles in the Sporting Regulations. Within 30 minutes of the race ending, Mercedes launched a couple of protests. One was “against the classification established at the end of the Competition, alleged breach of Article 48.12 of the 2021 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.” 

The second protest is regarding the alleged breach of Article 48.8 of the Sporting Regulations. This rule says “no driver may overtake another car on the track, including the Safety Car, until he passes the Line (see Article 5.3) for the first time after the safety car has returned to the pits.”

The top drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen went into the final round of the championship level on points. This has only happened one other time, which involved Emmerson Fittipaldi and Clay Regazzoni in 1974. Whatever be the outcome of the intense race, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen embraced on the podium and the 36-year-old congratulated his title rival after a title battle that will go down in history books as one of the closest-ever.

Manchester United had been striving to yield pleasing results under the guidance of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose managerial career had been at stake for a string of high-voltage matches. #1 Devising a defined tactical plan

Rangnick is understood to like to push his full-backs high up the pitch, allowing the wingers to move inside and get closer to the central lone striker. That could make United a much more aggressive team upfront and decimate the opponent’s defense.

#2 Alterations in the technique of defense

United’s defense has been the concerning matter. The form of the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, and Luke Shaw has raised questions. However, Rangnick could be utilizing the three of them but change the way of playing.

Wan-Bissaka and Shaw are likely to be asked to blast forward as much as they can and offer support to the attacking players, but their primary aim has to be defensive work. United have been conceding too many goals of late(a total of 19 in their last eight matches in all competitions.) The return of Raphael Varane from injury will also be a huge boost for United’s defensive line. Ralf Rangnick will be eyeing to build the team on its defensive grounds.

#3 Proper utilization of youngsters 

Ralf Rangnick, famously regarded as ‘The Professor’ has utilized the youngsters in the squad for the popular Gegenpressing (counter-pressing in German). This raises doubts over the use of the club’s superstar Cristiano Ronaldo who is aged 36. His inability to lead the press from the front this season has raised eyebrows and Rangnick is more likely to use Marcus Rashford, 23, Mason Greenwood, 20, and in particular, Jadon Sancho, 21. Donny van de Beek, 24, is another player who may benefit from this idea as he hasn’t got much playing time under Ole. But given Ronaldo’s recent goalscoring record, the German might be reluctant to keep him off the field.

We will have to see how United performs once Ralf Rangnick makes his way to Old Trafford as their journey to reach back to the top continues.

Here we will observe the 3 reasons why the heel turn for Kevin Owens was much needed at this stage of his career.

Kevin Owens needed to reinstate in his career:

Fans would agree that Kevin Owens works much better as a heel than a babyface. His heel antics will any day outdo his heroics as a babyface. He did turn babyface but WWE failed to utilize his excellent babyface gimmick up to the maximum potential.

The booking did not go as per the plan and he was mostly presented as a mid-card. Kevin Owens did get some World Championship opportunities like his back-to-back WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship matches against Roman Reigns last year and earlier this year. But he lost all of the matches.

With that being said, it will not be wrong to consider his babyface run to be unsuccessful and with the recent heel turn, he could once again rise up to the top to grab the championship opportunities.

Kevin Owens’ heel turn comes at a time when Big E is the WWE Champion. It is no surprise that several stars have eyes set on the ultimate prize of the company. Now, as it turns out, KO is one of them.

The heel turn took place on the latest edition of Monday Night RAW when he took on Seth Rollins. The action got to the outside and the two men continued to brawl as the referee started the count. Rollins quickly went back into the ring but Kevin Owens was unintentionally blocked by Big E at ringside. This led to Rollins picking up the win via count out.

Owens went on to burst out in frustration and attacked Big E. He laid out the WWE Champion with a vicious and typical KO Powerbomb on the ring apron as the show came to a conclusion.

He could not win any Championship after turning babyface. But while he was a heel, he won the WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship, WWE Intercontinental Championship WWE United States Championship multiple times. So this time being a heel once again, he could certainly claim the WWE title, which hasn’t won yet.

A possible factor to keep him with WWE:

Owens’ pro wrestling future has been up in the air ever since it was revealed that his current WWE contract is set to expire on January 31, 2022. This factor has been mentioned in his promo segment with Big E as well. With many talents joining AEW after getting released from WWE, KO might not an exception.

He is yet to renew his contract and putting a championship belt on him might lure him to contract renewal. It is unknown what cards WWE will play but they will certainly try their best to keep a talent of high-stature like Owens in the company.

We will see how WWE books Kevin Owens in the upcoming weeks.

CM Punk recently made his epic return to pro-wrestling after being away for seven long years. He defeated Darby Allin at All Out in September. Punk, who is still undefeated has picked up wins over Matt Sydal, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Daniel Garcia, and Bobby Fish, who recently made his in-ring debut on AEW Dynamite.

CM Punk and Eddie Kingston have finally sparked the feud

It was at last week’s Rampage, Kingston interrupted Punk during a backstage interview after the former lost AEW World Championship Eliminator tournament match against Bryan Danielson. This action from the ‘Mad King’ did not sit well with Punk and he called out Kingston on this week’s Dynamite. ‘The Second City Saint’ demanded an apology and on the latest edition of Rampage, Kingston finally responded to Punk.

Kingston denied apologizing to Punk and further said that he had no sympathy for Punk and his ego. He added that he idolized CM Punk, but he claimed people like Punk, Homicide, and Samoa Joe judged him backstage when he started wrestling because of his appearance. Punk replied that he wasn’t wrong to expect greatness from Eddie Kingston 15 years ago, but it was his fault for continuing to expect it from The Mad King, calling him a ‘bum’.

Eddie Kingston then said that no one in the AEW locker room wanted him there. He then challenged CM Punk to a match at AEW Full Gear that Punk accepted. Kingston told him to quit for another 7 years and leave after this match. Punk had heard enough and headbutted Kingston which ended in a brawl.

Eddie Kingston is a perfect rival for CM Punk

In pro-wrestling, storytelling is an important aspect, and as it turns out CM Punk vs Eddie Kingston could be one of the best feuds that will narrate the personal grudge, battle of egos and an intriguing storyline. Punk has mostly fought against opponents without any storyline but now he has a real test in front of him. Eddie Kingston is a hard-hitter and he has even matched Punk’s promo skills if he hadn’t outdone him. Kingston has what it takes to record Punk’s first defeat in the promotion and it could make a huge star out of Kingston.

The bad blood between Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch:

Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch’s friendship has seemingly turned into enmity. There is no doubt that both the stars have tasted success in Vince McMahon’s company and that might have played a major role which has boiled down to the battle of egos.

Recent few weeks have seen a controversy sparked between Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch, when an on-screen unscripted tiff was observed between the two stars. During the 2021 WWE Draft Becky Lynch was drafted to Monday Night RAW while Charlotte Flair moved to SmackDown.

It was announced by WWE that they would exchange their respective championships. At Crown Jewel, Lynch defended the SmackDown Women’s Title in a three-way match against both Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks.

The ‘title exchange’ segment saw Flair dropping the title before Lynch could hold it and this which showed some real ‘heat’ between the stars.

Fightful had reported that the original script involved Lynch grabbing and taking the title away from Charlotte Flair and bragging about being “Becky Two Belts” before Sonya Deville could intervene.

Apparently, Deville would’ve ordered Lynch to hand her title to Flair. But the report suggests that Flair didn’t agree to this and was even explicitly told to stay on course.The hostility sparked between the two as Charlotte made “Becky Lynch look bad” by throwing down the title when it wasn’t called for in the script.

Charlotte proposed that they should fight in a winner takes all match right away to determine who is truly the best among the two of them. Before Lynch could answer, Sasha Banks’ music hit, and she came out to the ring to challenge The Queen as she became the new SmackDown women’s champion.

The backstage reports further stated that ‘The Queen’ and ‘The Man’ had a physical altercation backstage following the segment. This also caused Flair to be directed to leave the arena.

What Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch have achieved in WWE?

Charlotte Flair has been able to carry on the legacy cemented by his father, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair. Charlotte is the fourth Women’s Grand Slam Champion, having held the SmackDown Women’s Championship 6 times, NXT Women’s Championship 2 times, Divas Championship 1 time, Raw Women’s Championship 6 times, Women’s Tag Team Championship with Asuka.

While Becky Lynch has won Raw Women’s Championship 2 times, SmackDown Women’s Championship 4 times and she also won the Women’s Royal Rumble in 2019 eliminating Flair and went on to the main-event WrestleMania 35 together alongside Ronda Rousey.

Their real-life chemistry also helped them become two of the biggest stars in the company with their rivalry back in 2018 which culminated when Lynch came out on top in a Last Woman Standing Match at Evolution, for which they also won Match of the Year.

Flair and Lynch famously called as Thelma and Louise, might have a strained relationship as it seems now but we would certainly want them to mend things between them.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has failed to meet the expectations of the fans despite resources

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has faced criticism after his arrival at the Theatre of Dreams back in 2018. But the scenario has changed a lot now with immense pressure on him this season particularly. He has been provided with a high-class squad having bagged the massive signings of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and superstar player of the team, Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

The fans have come down to the conclusion that another coach could do better with this group of players and it is finally the time to switch the manager as the Norweigian has failed to win a trophy so far since joining the club. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been backed in the media by several of his former Manchester United teammates, but that could soon change as well.

Solskjaer will have a huge test as the upcoming fixtures could decide his fate at the club. Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City are all lined up in their next three Premier League outings. While a couple of outings with Atalanta in the Champions League in between could prove to be a hard time for the United boss.

The Glazers have backed Solskjaer

Manchester United are at the fifth position on the league table that is one point outside the top four. They have won one and lost one in their Champions League group. The club has to make some quick decisions to salvage the season though it is quite early. But United’s form often drops in the mid-season which leads them to race for the top spot in the final few games of the season.

The recent performances have also frustrated the United players when CR7 was seen storming off the field, while Paul Pogba said they “deserved to lose” against Leicester.

The Glazers have backed Ole and there remains a belief that he can end the club’s five-year trophy wait during the 2021/22 campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer joined United on a caretaker basis in December 2018 before being appointed to the role permanently the following spring. He signed a new three-year deal in July 2021 with the option to extend for another year which will see him stay at the club until at least 2024. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed a new deal over the summer to keep him at the wheel until 2024. However, failure to deliver a trophy this season will likely see a change soon.

Antonio Conte could be the saviour for Manchester United

The world-class manager Antonio Conte had left Inter Milan over the summer in the wake of their financial issues. He had talks with Tottenham over the summer but did not join them. Conte, who is currently without a club is the favourite to replace OGS and he could be the right man to take over the duties as a manager of Manchester United The club should bring Antonio Conte before 2021/22 season ends.

He led Inter to Serie A glory last season but departed the club after some disagreements. He could be a great replacement for Solskjaer and with talented players at his service, he could bring back the glory days at Old Trafford.

Now as it seems, ‘The Monster Among Man’ has a huge decision to make regarding his future in the pro-wrestling industry. There is a possibility that Braun Strowman could end up inking a deal with IMPACT Wrestling.

IMPACT Wrestling is “heavily interested” in Braun Strowman

It has been heavily reported that Strowman is in high demand of IMPACT Wrestling. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, IMPACT Wrestling is “heavily interested” in signing Strowman to their roster. Ross Sapp also noted that there’s been a push backstage in IMPACT for the past month to bring him in. But is it a good idea?

Jim Cornette recently shared his thoughts on the same during The Jim Cornette Experience podcast. The wrestling legend stated that he isn’t following IMPACT Wrestling and doesn’t care if Strowman ends up joining them.

It has been noted that the company has strived to garner ratings since its inception but even a big name such as Strowman is unlikely to help them.

It is difficult to tell which stars Braun Strowman will be facing in IMPACT if he signs a deal with them. There is not much depth to the roster to take on such a heavyweight like  Strowman. However, heavyweights like Moose and W.Morrisey could rub shoulders with him.

Of course, since IMPACT Wrestling has a working relationship with promotions such as AEW and NJPW, ‘The Monster Among Men’ could be involved in a variety of matches against a variety of opponents, something that would not have been possible in WWE, since they don’t have any partnerships with other companies.

Bound For Glory is a massive event for IMPACT Wrestling and the card is already stacked with some exciting matches. The show could see some surprises while it will also see the debut of ‘The IInspirations'(Cassie Lee and Jessica McKay), who are going to get a Knockouts Tag Team Title shot.

So, the promotion could certainly decide to bring in such a well-established name like Strowman as well. The former WWE Universal Champion has been heavily linked with IMPACT and a recent report has also made the signing more firm.

Braun Strowman was reportedly spotted meeting with Impact Wrestling Executive VP Scott D’Amore, according to PWInsider. The two were seen talking at a hotel bar near the Motor City Comic Con in Detroit, Michigan last night. So, these are the indications that Strowman’s move to the promotion might be a done deal.

The debut of Braun Strowman seems like a matter of time now as Bound For Glory is set to take place on Saturday, October 23 and we will see if he shows up at the event.
