Former NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler has confessed her frustrations around her WrestleMania 36 showdown against Becky Lynch.
SHAYNA BASZLER WAS FURIOUS BEFORE HER MATCH AGAINST BECKY LYNCH
Baszler faced Lynch at the event with the former aiming to win the WWE Raw Women’s Championship. In the closing moments of the match, as Baszler applied the Kirifuda Clutch on Lynch, Lynch countered into a roll-up to retain her Championship.
The match was held at the WWE Performance Center without the semblance of a crowd. However, if the Covid-19 pandemic would not have spread, the match would have been held in front of 70,000 people at Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Florida. The bout lasted a total of eight minutes.
Baszler at that point was one of the most dominant female superstars in the roster, and she questioned whether WWE would have let her win the match in the presence of an audience.
Speaking to Justin Barrasso, Baszler recalled being intensely angry while reaching the Performance Center for Night 1 of the first ever two night edition of the flagship event. She believed the competitors had worked too hard for the match and the event to be held without the presence of spectators.
“I remember pulling up to the Performance Center for WrestleMania, sitting in my car, and feeling really angry. We’d worked too hard. I was so frustrated. Would things have been different with a crowd? Or did things change because of it? There are so many what-ifs, but you can’t sit and dwell on it,” She noted.
LYNCH WANTED A BASZLER VICTORY
Becky Lynch has herself stated in the past her plan of losing the Raw Women’s Championship to “The Ace Of Spades”. She pitched the plan of Baszler’s victory to the WWE creative team and she, alongside the majority of fans, expected a victory from the former MMA fighter. However, plans changed and it did not happen.
“I actually thought I was going to lose the title at WrestleMania, which I also pitched, but that was the end of it. Plans change,” Lynch stated on The Bellas Podcast.
Baszler has yet not managed to win the Championship, although she is a multi-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion.
