Popular actor Ryan Reynolds and Welsh football club, Wrexham AFC co-owner Rob McElhenney recently realized how much money they had lost since the club’s takeover of the club. Ryan Reynolds had an incredible reaction when he was informed about the same.
For those who are unaware, the two Hollywood stars purchased the club back in 2020. Since then, they have been having a great time, and last season saw the team get promoted. The two actors’ bizarre decision to buy a Welsh-based fifth-tier football team was heavily questioned but it’s safe to say they succeeded in disproving their naysayers.
The takeover has been captured on the FX series, ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, which documented Reynolds and McElhenney becoming the owners of the Welsh club.
During this season’s premiere of the show, Wrexham’s executive director Humphrey Ker alerted the actors that they had lost ‘loads’ of money since they bought the club. Initially, the specific amount they lost was not mentioned.

However, Wrexham’s Advisor to the Board Shaun Harvey was happy to share the figure – telling the owners they’d lost an estimated £10 million ($12 million) on their investment.
Upon hearing the figure, Reynolds had quite a reaction that could be labeled ‘typical Ryan Reynolds’ reaction. He said: “I’m going to throw up.”
McElhenney took a more balanced approach and asked when the duo can expect to make money from the club to which Harvey said:
“The value that’s coming from the global appeal we’ve been able to create is going to offset those additional costs that we’ve created.The biggest thing that will change on promotion [is that] people can see the value of Welcome to Wrexham. They can see the value of the profile that’s being built. That’s when the additional sponsorship revenue can be generated.”
