Ramírez vs Taylor to crown boxing’s first 4-belt champion!

The much-anticipated light-welterweight unification fight between José Ramírez (26–0, 17 KOs) and WBA (Super) and Josh Taylor (17–0, 13 KOs) is just days away.

On 22nd May, the fight will head for the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas in Paradise, Nevada where the WBC and WBO titles of Ramírez, as well as WBA (Super) and IBF belts of Taylor, will all be on the line as the winner will take all to become the undisputed champion at 140.

Either Ramírez or Taylor will become the first WBC, WBO, WBA (Super) and IBF champion ever

If such a feat is not mouth watering enough for the boxing fans, what’s more significant about the fight is, the winner will be the first boxer in history to have all four of WBC, WBO, WBA (Super) as well as IBF titles around his waist,

Moreover, if “Jaguar” Ramírez, who has been massively confident about walking out of the ring as the winner, will be the first Mexican undisputed champion if he defeats Taylor.

“I look forward to making history by becoming the first boxer of Mexican descent to hold all four major world title belts,” Ramírez had told following the announcement of the fight back in March.

Across the seventeen weight classes in boxing, Anthony Joshua currently holds the WBA, WBO, and IBF Heavyweight titles, Jermell Charlo is the WBC, WBA, and IBF Super Welterweight titleholder and Teofimo Lopez also possesses the same belts as Jermall in the lightweight division.

Moreover, the upcoming super middleweight title fight between WBC and WBA (Super) champion Canelo Alvarez and WBO titleholder Billy Joe Saunders this Saturday will result in a three-belt champion at 168.

Interestingly, this year can potentially see three four belt champions in boxing. While the Ramírez vs Taylor fight is finalized, Joshua’s upcoming title fight against WBC champion Tyson Fury will also determine the 4-belt heavyweight champion, while the winner of Canelo vs Saunders will be taking on IBF titleholder Caleb Plant later this year.

José Ramírez, won the vacant WBC back in March 2018 against Amir Imam, followed by five successful title defense, and in his third WBC title defense in July 2019 against Maurice Hooker, Ramírez also clinched the WBO belt.

A former amateur boxing star in the UK, Josh Taylor May 2019, Taylor earned his IBF title with a unanimous victory over Ivan Baranchyk in Glasgow in May 2019. Later in Octover the same year, Taylor marked his first title defense as well as grabbed the WBA (Super) belt against Regis Prograis in London.
