In an excellent match which was widely seen as pay per view quality, Roman Reigns defeated Daniel Bryan without any outside help to retain his WWE Universal Championship. In the match, the duo battled toe to toe, but Reigns had the last laugh as he managed to fade out his opponent with a Guillotine Choke.

The stipulation of the match demanded the former “American Dragon” to be banned from WWE SmackDown Live, of which he has been an integral part since the inception of WWE’s second brand split. He was promptly placed into the alumni section of the promotion’s website. However, not much news was made out of it as WWE has long been known to use the tactic to advance storylines.

While the initial question was whether Bryan was going to NXT or Raw, now questions about his WWE future is out in the open. According to multiple reports, his WWE contract has expired last week and whether he has signed a new contract is still a secret.

However, there were no farewell for the veteran superstar, which indicates that he is staying in the company. The multiple times WWE Champion may also decide to temporarily work for the company without a contract.

According to current claims by Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is pushing hard to sign Daniel Bryan, who has recently wished of wrestling in other promotions. He also recently praised the AEW, Impact Wrestling and AAA (Mega) World Champion Kenny Omega.

While multiple reports suggested even a week back that his contract expired this September, he himself recently had some words about the topic: “It’s funny that people gravitate towards the date ‘September’ and I think it’s because that’s when my last contract ended, but it doesn’t end in September.”

He himself is tight-lipped about his future in the company’s and wrestling in general. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the fan favourite superstar, and when and where we see him wrestling in the future.
