Manchester City goes on a shopping spree to fulfill Pep Guardiola’s wish list

After perhaps the worst league season in Pep Guardiola’s managerial career, Manchester City would look to rebuild what once was the best squad in Europe.

After losing the Premier League title to Liverpool in a campaign in which the Citizens suffered a record 9 defeats, the Blues would be eager to solve their defensive woes as well as be prepared to transfer the reins to the next-generation after many of their legends have bid adieu to the club.

And Pep, being the master tactician that he is has already made a wish list of players that he wants at Etihad.

Manchester City
Nathan Ake-A solution to Man city’s defensive woes?

Nathan Ake set for medical, Manchester City want to sign four more-

After the departure of legendary Vincent Kompany at the back,City’s defensive woes were always going to increase. Add to that Laporte’s injuries throughout the season and you get the reason behind City’s defense being in shambles for much of the season.

What Blues currently want is a commanding presence at the back. The kind which Kompany provided for the City in yesteryears. The kind of which Ramos brings to Real Madrid. And Napoli‘s Kalidou Koulibaly is a player that would fit the bill perfectly.

Nathan Ake, who up until very recently was being linked with Manchester  United, and Chelsea has finally moved to Etihad and would provide further solidity at the back. They struck a £41m deal with the Cherries to sign the Dutchman.

Ake is Manchester City’s second capture this year after the Blues reined in 20-year-old Valencia winger Ferran Torres. He would definitely add a bit more firepower and speed to a squad which seemed seriously slow after the departure of Leroy sane.

Potential lineup for coming season

Looking to the Future-

As with all things, the golden generation of Manchester City seems to be ending their trophy-laden careers and Pep Guardiola has to face the daunting task of rebuilding at Etihad. With Vincent Kompany having already gone and this season to be the last for David Silva, City seem to already be seriously short in experience.

Add to that the departure of Leroy Sane to Bayern and 2020/21 to be the last season on Sergio Aguero’s current contract and the Citizens seem to be seriously in need of replenishment. Although Guardiola has been trying to give Gabriel Jesus longer playing spells, Manchester  City has been linked to the likes of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix.

Coming up-

The lessons are clear. Manchester City has been scintillating in attack and even with the departure of some of their veterans, have enough youngsters to replace them, with the likes of Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez constantly improving. Should they be able to fix their defensive woes and get the players on Guardiola’s wish list, then the Citizens would surely be able to justify their tag of the best team in Europe.

City will be up against  Real Madrid in the 2nd leg of UEFA Champions League last 16 clash at Etihad and should they win, it would surely be a great step in Pep Guardiola’s dream of lifting the Champions League with Manchester City.
