Lionel Messi’s father and agent Jorge dropped a huge hint regarding the player’s future after confirming talks went well with the Barcelona board. Messi had initially expressed his desire to leave Camp Nou after feigning displeasure over the board and the team.

Jorge Messi held talks with the Barcelona board to sort out his son and client’s contract which is currently holding him back to depart from Barcelona.

However, the two parties seem to have reached a compromise which will allow Messi to leave for free after the end of the 2020-21 season. Barcelona will have the Argentinian for one more season while clubs hoping to acquire him won’t have to pay the staggering 700 million Euro release clause fee.

Lionel Messi had skipped the pre-season testing camp which suggests that he will not be a part of the training ahead of the upcoming season.

Barcelona’s makeover under Koeman amid Messi saga

Despite the club’s priority at the moment being the future of Lionel Messi, newly appointed manager Ronald Koeman has wasted little time to revamp the team which was humiliated in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Dutch manager has already sanctioned the sale of Ivan Rakitic to Sevilla while a move to Serie A side Inter Milan is on the books for midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Koeman aims to change the outlook of an ageing squad that he has inherited after the Quique Setien reign at Camp Nou.

Various angles regarding Messi’s future

Ever since declaring his desire to move away from the club, several clubs have stepped up to acquire the services of the star player.

While Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain and Juventus are the favourites to land Messi, the former under the influence of Pep Guardiola are reportedly a step ahead of the rest.

Reports have emerged claiming that the Cityzens have drafted a 5-year contract for the Argentinian which includes an option of moving to the MLS for their sister club New York FC.

While former teammate Neymar and national teammate Angel Di Maria have also requested the player to join the Ligue 1 giants with their wage structure cleared upon the departures of Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani.
