The result was totally unpredictable and Liverpool did not go into the game expecting to put up such a poor performance. But, the Reds’ gaffer claimed that he saw this coming, as they “lost the plot” being 1-0 down.

He said, “Yes, I saw it. So it is easy to believe because I was here. First of all you have to say that Villa did very well. They were very physical, very smart and very direct, we were not.”

Klopp said, “We lost balls in the wrong area and did not protect properly. It looked like we lost the plot after it went to 1-0. It is not an excuse. Normally you can be 1-0 down and do the stuff you want to do. We created but did not protect ourselves properly so each ball we lost was a massive counter attack.”

Ollie Watkins, the Aston Villa striker completed his hat-trick in the first half as Liverpool went to the dressing room trailing by 4-1.

The second half goals by Ross Barkley and a brace from Jack Grealish helped Aston Villa make the shocker of a scoreline, as Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah pulled back another goal but was of no use.

The Liverpool boss lauded the Aston Villa players for putting up a show at the Villa Park. The Lions ran riot against the defending champions as they bag their three consecutive league wins.

Jurgen Klopp praised, “Aston Villa were so good. Watkins wow and of course when you give the ball to Jack [Grealish] in a one v one situation on the left he can go either way and create chances.”

Klopp recalls wanting to create history a few years ago. But they were part of the history in the match against Villa but it was the wrong one.
