“We need a genuine number 9”: Rooney wants Man Utd to prioritize Kane over Sancho

Wayne Rooney has finally put forward his views on the entire transfer saga that is unfolding at Old Trafford and feels that Manchester United should push for a genuine number 9 in Harry Kane instead of opting for Jadon Sancho.

Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford but with less than 48 hours remaining before the transfer window closes, the chances of Sancho plying his trade with Red Devils seem slim. And to add fuel to fire-Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has come forward to insist that the mercurial winger is staying.

The door is closed, I have said this 27 times!“, Zorc told reporters.

“Harry Kane-A perfect no. 9” claims Rooney

Harry Kane has been getting itchy in the Tottenham jersey after a lack of trophies that a top striker would love to have and this might be the year when only loyalty to the Tottenham badge won’t be enough to make the English captain stay.

And Wayne Rooney believes that Manchester United and Harry Kane are a match made in heaven and feels that Kane would be a far suitable candidate at Old Trafford instead of Jadon Sancho.

“Why consider paying close to £100 million for someone similar to talent you’ve got already? United have Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial and where would Sancho’s arrival leave Mason Greenwood, who plays in the same position and is of a similar age?

“I’d rather put that £100 million towards trying to get Harry Kane. Yes, getting Kane out of Tottenham would be difficult, maybe impossible, but United are a club who should always make an effort to sign the very best players and Kane is exactly what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs, as is Erling Haaland, who United missed out on last year — a genuine No 9.” said Rooney.

It is hard to disagree with Rooney’s opinion and as for now, Man does seem in dire need of a striker.

But what is even more important is whether Spurs will let go of their talisman, considering Kane has a contract till 2024.

We all saw what happened in the entire Messi -Barcelona saga and were Spurs not to comply with a deal, it would be a herculean task to get Kane for Manchester United.

Then there is Harry Kane himself who, at the prime of his career wants trophies, trophies that are hard to come by even for the likes of Manchester United.

This is not the first time that an Old Trafford legend has advocated a move for Harry Kane with Paul Scholes also saying that “We need a No.9, and Harry Kane would be that man for me.”

Up next in the Premier League-

Harry Kane’s Tottenham would be up against Manchester United on Sunday while Liverpool would battle Aston Villa.

On the other hand in further agony for Pep Guardiola, Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw against newly-promoted Leeds United.
