Jack Grealish, the Aston Villa winger was not chosen in the squad by England National side boss, Gareth Southgate initially. However, after the Manchester United star, Marcus Rashford and Tottenham player, Harry Winks, both have been dropped from the squad, the 24 year old winger has been given the green signal.
Jack Grealish called up for England squad for the first time
Inspite of putting up an extraordinary performance in the Premier League 2019/20 campaign for Aston Villa, Jack Grealish was left out of England’s 24 man squad.
England are set to face Iceland and Denmark in the UEFA Nations League. After the Manchester United sensation, Marcus Rashford and Spurs’ midfielder Harry Winks were dropped from the squad, the Aston Villa winger has been called upon to join Gareth Southgate’s squad.
England national team manager, Gareth Southgate was asked about his decision for not including Jack Grealish earlier.
The 49 year old manager said: “The difficulty for Jack is Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford.”
He continued, “Those four have either been with us for a long time and been exceptional, in terms of Marcus and Raheem. Jadon is just breaking through and I think everybody is aware of his potential, and Mason Greenwood’s goalscoring record and performances with Manchester United were outstanding.”
Gareth Southgate added, “It is an area of the field where we have people like Callum Hudson-Odoi as well. I know at times Villa play Jack as a midfield player – that is not as I see him in the way we play.”
He concluded, “So, with us he would be a wide player or a 10 and, at the moment, I think we have got players who deserve to be in just ahead of him.”
Marcus Rashford, the Manchester United striker was utterly disappointed following the decision. He took to Twitter and expressed his feelings. He tweeted, “Gutted 😔 never want to let this team down but these fixtures just came a little too soon for me. I tried my best but I have to focus on starting the season at my strongest for club and country. Good luck boys, I’ll be cheering you on from home 🦁♥️ @England”

Jack Grealish have scored 10 goals in his 41 appearances for Aston Villa in the 2019/20 season. He was heavily linked with a move the Old Trafford as speculations of his transfer began.
Jack Grealish will now be entirely focussed on his performance that is to be delivered in the International duty and use the utmost opportunity that has been given to him.
