After a horrid stint with Manchester United, Alexis Sanchez has found a new home in Inter Milan. The winger reflected on his time with the Red Devils in an Instagram video, where he felt he did not belong right from the start.

Arriving at Old Trafford as the highest-paid player in the league, expectations were sky-high from the ardent fans. The Chilean was part of a high-profile swap deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan make his way to Arsenal.

“Before I had an agreement with Manchester City, but due to football things, the opportunity for City was not given and the opportunity for United opened up,”

He went on to say that he has always admired the Red Devils and the offer was tempting. However, Sanchez did not fit in right from the start, so much so that he asked his agent about a possibility of returning back to Arsenal after the first training session. He added:

“After training, I came home and told my family and my manager: ‘Can’t you get the contract to go back to Arsenal?’

The blame was always pinned on me: Sanchez

In the six-minute video, Sanchez continues by revealing that as the months passed, the situation did not improve for him. He felt that the team were not united during that phase and also felt hurt by the comments directed at him by journalists and former United players.  He added:

“The first months passed and I continued to feel the same feeling. We were not united as a team at that time, and the journalists spoke without knowing and it bothered you, it hurt. Former players spoke who had no idea of anything that happened,”

Sanchez also explained how injuries affected his tenure as he was not given enough game-time to stake his claim into the team. The winger also recalled being left off the team altogether for a match against West Ham, which was something that he had experienced for the first time in his career.

“As you had to blame one, they blamed me and sometimes I did not play, sometimes 20 or 30 minutes and it was always one of them. Obviously I criticize myself, I should have played better and I didn’t, in that period there were also injuries that maybe because I wasn’t happy because we weren’t united as a team, it hurt us and me too. I always took the blame.

“In a game with West Ham, I did not dress and it had never happened to me as a player, it hurt and bothered me a lot. That day I said that it could not be possible to go from being one of the best in the Premier League to five months later not dressing It bothered me a bit, but I got home, I got a little sad and the next day I trained double shift, as I always am, I push myself the most, I love what I do, which is football, “

Lastly, Sanchez said that he personally approached Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for a love away from Old Trafford and despite the rough time, thanked the club for giving him an opportunity. He concluded:

“The season was over and the current United manager arrived, I spoke with him, I told him that it was necessary for him to take another breath, give me the opportunity to go to Inter, he told me there was no problem. And I’m already a player for Inter. I only have words of thanks to United for giving me the opportunity to wear their jersey, to represent them. If it bothered me a lot that things were not given as I wanted due to the atmosphere at that time, if it was more positive it would have been a little better. the atmosphere was not good, I was not happy “.
