The tenacious midfielder also thanked everyone at his former club with whom he had reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League last year. He said:

“I would like to thank everyone at Ajax. I grew up there and I will always have a special bond with the club.

The player will wear the No.34 jersey in honour of former teammate Abdelhak Nouri, who collapsed during a match in 2017 and suffered serious brain damage.

Van de beek will now fight for a spot in the middle of the park with prominent midfielders like Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and Fred. The Netherlands International claimed that he looks forward to playing with some of the best midfielders in the world. He added:

“This team has some of the best midfielders in the world and I know that I can learn from them and also bring my own strengths to the group.

“Having spoken to the manager about his vision for this team, the direction that the club is going in is hugely exciting and I cannot wait to be a part of that.”
