Donny van de Beek, the Ajax midfielder has been on the radar of Manchester United for a long period of time. The 23 year old is set to become a Red Devil after both the parties have agreed on a deal.

Donny van de Beek, the Dutch midfielder is set to sign for the Premier League giants, Manchester United for £40m. This would mark as United’s first major summer transfer signing.
The talented 23 year old midfielder rose to prominence because of his amazing performances at Eredevisie side, Ajax. The player is set to leave Ajax like his former teammates- Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech.
Soon to be arriving at the Old Trafford, the Dutchman is willing to sport the United shirt with 34 on the back. The shirt no. 6 that he wore at Ajax is taken by Paul Pogba. So managed for an alternative. He explained the reason to take the decision of wearing the shirt no. 34.
It will be a tribute to his ex Ajax academy teammate, Abdelhak Nouri. During a friendly match in 2017, the player dropped to the ground which caused serious brain damage.
Donny van de Beek admits that the incident haunts him till date and the shirt no.34 is close to his heart.

The Dutchman said, “He just joined the first team and we sat next to each other in the dressing room at De Toekomst.I’m going to ask for shirt number 34, because the 34th title, we’re going to make that happen.”
“After his cardiac arrest I kept thinking about his words and I was certain that I wasn’t going to leave Ajax until we had won a championship. I had to get that 34th championship. We all played for Appie too. I longed for this championship so much.”
He continued, “I often visit his family and in the offseason I might go to Appie himself. To protect myself I haven’t visited him for a while, because when I see him, that hurts me too much.”
“I’ll be upset for a couple of weeks and I won’t sleep well. It hurts intensely and I’ll never get used to it. I want to be with him every day, because I miss him a lot.”
Donny van de Beek in 23 appearances for Ajax in the 2019/20 campaign has tallied eight goals and five assists.
