UEFA has revealed the nominees shortlisted for the 2019/20 UEFA Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year Awards. As announced previously, in honour of the coaches, UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year and UEFA Women’s Coach of the Year Awards will also be presented at the event for the first time. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on October 1 during the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League group stage draw at UEFA Headquarters.
UEFA Men’s Player of the Year
The jury members, the coaches and journalists made a shortlist of three players and allocated five points, three points and one point to each of them.
The three players who received the most points overall are:
- Kevin de Bruyne (Belgium – Manchester City FC)
- Robert Lewandowski (Poland – FC Bayern München)
- Manuel Neuer (Germany – FC Bayern München)
Kevin de Bruyne, the Manchester City ace scored 20 goals in all competitions and also achieved the Premier League Player of the Season award and PFA Players’ Player of the Year Award.
Robert Lewandowski, the Bayern Munich striker scored a staggering 47 goals in the last season. He played a major part for Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League victory.
Manuel Neuer, the German goalkeeper also made his way into the nominations winning the Champions League and Bundesliga as the part of Bayern Munich squad.
UEFA Women’s Player of the Year
After the total number of votes cast by coaches and journalists, the three players who received the most points are:
- Lucy Bronze (England – Olympique Lyonnais, now at Manchester City Women FC)
- Pernille Harder (Denmark – VfL Wolfsburg, now at Chelsea FC Women)
- Wendie Renard (France – Olympique Lyonnais).
Lucy Bronze and Wendie Renard won the UEFA Women’s Champions League, being a part of Olympique Lyonnais squad while forward Pernille Harder playing for VFL Wolfsburg were the finalists in the same competition.
UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year
The three coaches who received the most points after the votes were cast are:
- Hans-Dieter Flick (Germany – FC Bayern München)
- Jürgen Klopp (Germany – Liverpool FC)
- Julian Nagelsmann (Germany – RB Leipzig)
UEFA Women’s Coach of the Year
The three coaches who received the most points after the votes were cast are:
- Lluís Cortés (Spain – FC Barcelona)
- Stephan Lerch (Germany – VfL Wolfsburg)
- Jean-Luc Vasseur (France – Olympique Lyonnais)
