No post-retirement health benefits for UFC fighters, Dana White clears up “misunderstanding”

From what turned out to be a piece of jolly and positive news for the veterans in the UFC and the former stalwarts of the company, the president Dana White claimed that his recent comment on introducing post-retirement benefits for the fighters was simply a miscommunication.

“Responded to the wrong guy”, UFC prez negates any full-time benefit for fighters

Last week, during a fan Q&A session on Instagram, Dana White was questioned by a fan whether UFC was considering to introduce full time health packages to benefit fighters who may suffer from medical issues after retiring from the sport.

“Will the ufc ever offer their fighters full time health benefits so they can have them after their careers are over and possibly deal with life altering issues from fighting” the fan had asked, to which, White had replied, “Soon”.

This came off as a possibility that White was looking to bring in full time benefits for its fighters, the first of its kind in the promotion and received much applaud from it from the combat sports community.

However, it was just too good to be true. In a recent interaction with Farah Hannoun of UFC Arabia, who asked White about the proposed benefits, the UFC prez was not able to provide any information on the same and even claimed that it was simply a misunderstanding, saying that he was responding to another fan.

“Yeah, that wasn’t a Q&A. That was on Instagram. I actually responded to the wrong guy when I said ‘soon.’ That was wrong, actually,” White revealed to Hannoun, “I actually noticed that later that I said ‘soon’ but it was on the wrong post. I wasn’t talking to that guy, it was somebody else.”

This will come off as a disappointment as many former UFC fighters were excited about the health benefits they would have been receiving to treat the years of damage they suffer inside the cage.

The sport of MMA, despite being relatively new, is one of the most dangerous and many fighters often end up with severe ailments such as brain trauma or CTE. The full-time health benefits would of been great help to them.
