Dustin Poirier clinched his second straight victory over Conor McGregor at UFC 264, which has definitely made ‘The Diamond’s fanbase happy. Interestingly, the win has made an iconic combat sports persona happy as well – Floyd Mayweather Jr.
As it turns out, Mayweather had bet $50,000 on Poirier to see him triumph over his former sparring rival and as the Louisiana man clinched a first-round TKO win over McGregor, “Money” has been paid a return of a little over $35,700 from his $50k bet, earning him a total of $85,714.
McGregor laughs at Mayweather’s $35k return from Poirier’s UFC 264 win
Following the fight, Mayweather had sent Poirier a thank you note on social media, along with a photo of the amount of bet he had placed to see ‘The Notorious’ lose. “@dustinpoirier , thanks for getting me paid!” the 44 year old had captioned the photo.
The tweet took over the social media platform in no time. Poirier, seeing Mayweather’s return from the placed bet, responded to the former five division world champion with a comment, saying “I got you champ!”
Interestingly, McGregor also arrived on the post, and Mayweather getting a $35,700 return out of his defeat seemed laughable to ‘Mystic Mac’, as he commented “35k” along with a couple of crying laughing emojis.
