F1 Superstar Lewis Hamilton Is The New Co-owner Of Denver Broncos

On Tuesday, it was made official that seven time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton had acquired the co-ownership of the NFL franchise Denver Broncos.

Lewis Hamilton has set foot in the world of American sports by becoming a co-owner of the Broncos. Formula One racing star has joined the team’s ownership group led by Walmart heir Rob Walton. Hamilton joins former United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who joined the group the previous month. The purchase of the Broncos would be completed by Walton and his group by 9th August.

“We’re delighted to welcome Seven-Time Formula 1 World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton to our ownership group. He is a champion competitor who knows what it takes to lead a winning team and a fierce advocate for global equality, including in his own sport. With over 100 race wins, Lewis is considered the most successful F1 driver of all time. His resilient spirit and standard of excellence will be an asset to the ownership group and the Broncos organization,” said Walton in an official statement from the Broncos.

Honoured to work with a world-class team: Lewis Hamilton

Previously linked with Premier League club Chelsea, Hamilton had been looking forward for an opportunity to invest with a large sports team. It was revealed in April that he and Serena Williams were a part of  Sir Martin Broughton’s bid to buy the Blues. Eventually, Todd Boehly took over the London club.

It appears since then the seven-time world champion has turned his attention Stateside, and confirmed the news of his investment in the Broncos on Twitter.

“Excited to join an incredible group of owners and become a part of the [Broncos] story!!” the Briton tweeted, “Honoured to work with a world-class team and serve as an example of the value of more diverse leadership across all sports.”

The most successful driver in the history of Formula 1 is Hamilton. In his career he has won seven championships and a record 103 races. Hamilton is in the sixth place in the standings this year and also coming off a second-place performance at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
