Iker Casillas, the former Real Madrid and Spain star had experienced a successful and glorious career playing for both club and his National side. During the TELMEX Telcel Foundation event in Mexico, he pointed out the differences between Jose Mourinho and Vincente de Bosque, both being the former Real Madrid boss.

Iker Casillas opens up on former Real Madrid gaffers

Iker Casillas, the Real Madrid legend began by stating that playing under both the managers were separate scenarios. Being under the guidance of Vincente del Bosque was “justified in footballing terms” and under Jose Mourinho was a “personal” one.

He said, “We [Casillas and Del Bosque] got on well for a year and a half and the next year we had disagreements, but that was normal between the captain and the coach.”

He continued, “It doesn’t mean that you’re more important than the coach, but you’re going to end up having issues because you have to speak to him practically every day and the relationship starts to break down.”

Vincente del Bosque’s managerial duty for Real Madrid spanned for five years from 1999 to 2003 and eight years from 2008 to 2016 for Spain National team.

Under the manager in Real Madrid, Iker Casillas won two La Liga titles, one Supercopa de España and Champions League, including one Intercontinental Cup.

In the International duty for Spain, the pair have won FIFA World Cup in 2010 and Euro Championship in 2012.

Iker Casillas, the 39-year-old claimed that Jose Mourinho did not have a cordial relationship with the Spanish goalkeeper.

He was replaced with a fellow teammate during the Portuguese gaffer’s tenure at Real Madrid. However, the Spaniard revealed having no “hard feelings”.

He said, “There are no hard feelings between us because both of us wanted the best for the team. I decided to not have much of a relationship with him because I didn’t like a lot of the things I was seeing and he chose to pick another ‘keeper.”

During Jose Mourinho’s stint at the club, Iker Casillas won the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de España.

Iker Casillas did not receive a farewell from the club that he had served for 16 long years making amassed 725 appearances.

When asked about his exit he said, “We all made mistakes there, but we’ve learned from it. I don’t like to see those pictures and I don’t think it was good for anyone. I’m sure that someday we’ll do good things to make people happy again.”
