Gonzalo Higuaín set to earn $8 million yearly from Inter Miami, the highest in MLS!

After four years with Juventus, Gonzalo Higuaín is all set to leave Turin for US. The Serie A champions have terminated the contract of the veteran forward, and Higuaín is expected to join Major League Soccer side Inter Miami very soon. The move to the US club will earn the Argentine around $8 million per year from the club, which willl make him the highest earning footballer in MLS.

Until 2019, the highest paid player in the United States football league was Zlatan Ibrahimović. The former Los Angeles Galaxy forward, who joined AC Milan this year, was paid $7.2 million annually at the Californian club.

Now Higuaín, upon joining Miami on a free transfer from The Old Lady, will break that record.

A youth product of River Plate, Gonzalo Higuaín joined Real Madrid in 2007, and flew to Napoli in 2013, three years before his Bianconeri stint begun in 2016. He has netted the ball 48 times in 102 appearances for Juve, and won three Serie A titles.

Higuaín was loaned out to AC Milan in 2018, and also joined Chelsea on a short loan spell in January 2019.

While the transfer has not been official yet, according to reports from Italian journalist and transfer specialist Nicolo Schira, Higuaín has signed a two year deal with Inter Miami, and will land an annual income of nearly $ 8.8 million in Fort Lauderdale.

However, the 32 year old was spotted in Miami together with Jorge Mas, managing owner of the club.

“A warm welcome to Gonzalo Higuain, a world class striker and champion. ⁦@G_Higuain”, Jorge tweeted on Friday.

Last month, former Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi also joined Inter Miami on a free transfer. Upon completing his transfer, Higuaín will link up with his former teammate.

Owned by David Beckham, Inter Miami was founded in 2018. They debuted in the 2020 MLS season on 1st March 2020, when they lost 1-0 against Los Angeles FC at the Banc of California Stadium. They are currently at the bottom of the league table, with only two wins out of 11 matches.

Inter Miami lost today’s match against Orlando City 1-2 at the Exploria Stadium. They will take on Atlanta United at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on 20th September.
