Former Double legend, Todd Woodbridge believes that Roger Federer’s best chance for a slam remains Wimbledon 2021, with Tokyo Olympics serving as an endgame for the Swiss legend.

It wasn’t the best of starts for Roger Federer in 2021 after the Swiss maestro was forced to withdraw from the year opening Australian open owing to still lingering knee injury concerns.

Sharing his thoughts on Federer’s chances in 2021 and the GOAT debate,Todd Woodbridge, the former doubles legend, claims that results and not age would determine how long Federer would stay on the court.

Todd Woodbridge, who is among the most successful doubles players of all time with a record 22 slams was speaking to channel nine this week.

“A player of his stature, at some point when you’re not winning, you start to wonder about why you’re only making the quarter-finals when you’re used to being in the final,” Woodbridge told Channel Nine this week.

“It doesn’t give the same adrenaline rush as it always has, and that’s when you start to think to yourself that you’ve got other things to do with your life.”

A semi-final defeat in Melbourne in 2020 was Federer’s last competitive match, and playing five-setters in the Australian summer heat after a lengthy injury and 14 days quarantine would have been a tricky proposition for the 39-year-old.

For Roger to continue on, he’ll have to be able to manage his body when he does come back,” said Woodbridge, who won 22 Grand Slam doubles titles.

“His goals, I assume, would be to play at the Olympics and at Wimbledon. Wimbledon is the major that I see him being able to win at this stage of his career.”Woodbridge concluded

Wimbledon 2021 is expected to take place at it’s traditional slot of mid-June after a hiatus in 2020.

Federer to be out of the GOAT debate!

In what many would consider being an extremely bold proposition, legend Nikola Pilic claimed that for him only two people remain in the GOAT debate and maintained that Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will leave Roger Federer behind in the coming years.

“It’s hard to imagine that Roger Federer could win another Major or two.

“I’m not saying it is impossible, but it will be extremely tough for him to achieve that. In my opinion, only two players have left in the GOAT race, Nikola Pilic said.

With age not on his side, many would think that Nikola’s words may ring true, but if there is one thing that Federer does better than everyone else,it is Comeback.
