EURO 2020: England vs Croatia Odds, Predictions and Analysis

England

The Three Lions side, dazzling with the presence of highly promising youngsters, are undepr immense pressure to make a mark in the tournament following their patchy outings in International events as of late.

England had a relatively easy group during the qualifiers and romped their way into the competition with only a single loss.

The biggest headache that head coach Gareth Southgate poses is the selection of the playing eleven. With the amount of talent and depth in the current unit at present, it will all come down to the formation and chemistry to overcome Croatia.

Despite sticking to a back three in the World Cup and the Nations League, England seems to have employed a back four approach now. Southgate used the 4-2-3-1 for both of their slender warm-up wins against Austria and Romania.

Jordan Pickford is expected to start at goal with John Stones and Tyrone Mings in front as the centre backs. Talisman Harry Maguire is yet to fully recover from injury which leaves the possible replacements down to Tyrone Mings, Conor Coady and late call-up Ben White.

Manchester starlets Luke Shaw and Kyle Walker are the favourites to start on either flanks while the midfield promises to be a blend of experience and youth in the form of Declan Rice and Jordan Henderson.

With a plethora of talent to choose from, the front four could be a tricky aspect of the formation to choose from. The form of Harry Kane and Jack Grealish arguably seals their spot.

The chemistry with their club teammates on the flank could prompt Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden to start at left and right wing respectively. The presence of a left-footer adds a bit versatility into the attack as well. England will have lot of talent to bring up from the bench in case things go haywire.

Croatia

The World Cup finalists are not heading into the tournament in the best of nicks following a defeat to Belgium and a draw over Armenia.

Croatia topped their group by a good margin despite not coasting through it, and pose enough danger in their unit to trouble England.

A 4-3-3- formation was emplouyed in both of their matches prior to their Euro opener. A well balanced unit is illuminated by the midfield which is made up by stalwarts from Europe’s top clubs. Luka Modric, Marcelo Brozovic and Mateo Kovacic makes up the middle of the park.

Croatia captain Luka Modric, who has even plied his trade in the English Premier League at the start of his career with Tottenham Hotspur caused a stir by commenting about the English media’s arrogance.

“That arrogance is not so much related to the players and to the national team but to the people around them,”

“[It was or is more] some of the journalists and commentators. Recently I’ve not read many media outlets. the Ballon d’Or had said

They also pose a threatening front line as well with the likes of Ante Rebic, Ivan Perisic and Andrej Kramaric forming the front three.

Waging Odds: England (1.60) vs Croatia (6.50) (Draw 4.00)

Croatia are the underdogs and are priced at 6.50, meaning if you bet ₹100 on them and if they win the match, you’ll be making ₹650.

Belgium are priced at 1.60 and are the favourites. Betting ₹100 on them will earn you ₹160 if they come out as winners.

The odds for a draw are placed at 4.00. Betting ₹100 on them will earn you ₹400 if the fixture ends all level.

Our Prediction:

The superior squad of England makes them the clear favourites and while the experienced Croatian cavalry might make things difficult for them at times, the Three Lions should be able to kick their campaign with a win.

Expect England to take the contest with a 2-1 or 3-1 win with the onus on Harry Kane and the attacking players coming off the bench.
