The third encounter of the UEFA EURO 2020 between Denmark and Finland has been suspended after midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field in the first half. Eriksen was treated on the field for over 10 minutes and was subsequently stretchered off the field.
Christian Eriksen appeared to be contesting for a throw-in from his teammate near the corner flag. The Inter Milan player appeared to be staggering on the field before receiving the ball and collapsed to the ground face-first after the ball hit his knee. Watch the incident right below:
His teammates, in direct view of the grim situation, frantically surrounded Eriksen and called for the medical team.
The former Tottenham Hostpur star was seemingly unconscious which prompted the medical team to administer CPR and electric shocks on him to resuscitate him. The full house stadium in the capital city of Copenhagen were in utter shock as their star player lay motionless in front of them.
Eriksen transferred to a medical facility
The medical team proceeded to take him off the field after the clock hit over 60 minutes in the first half.
“Following the medical emergency involving Denmark’s player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 19:45 CET. The player has been transferred to the hospital and has been stabilised,” UEFA released an official statement
According to sources, the nearest hospital is only 500 metres away from the ground. The Denmark Football Association have also announced that the player is currently awake and stable, and will undergo a couple of tests to diagnose his condition.
