The 2024 Chinese Grand Prix witnessed a dramatic turn of events, with Daniel Ricciardo and Lance Stroll at the center of controversy. As the race restarted after a Safety Car period, chaos ensued.

Fernando Alonso’s lock-up caused a chain reaction, leading to a concertina effect among the cars. George Russell, Oscar Piastri, and Ricciardo all braked to avoid collisions. However, Lance Stroll failed to slow down sufficiently and crashed heavily into the back of Ricciardo’s car, causing significant damage and forcing the Australian driver to retire.

Ricciardo faced three place grid penalty for Miami GP and he said, ““If he texted just saying, ‘Yeah, you know, my bad’, whatever. Okay, I can accept an apology. I’m not that much of an a**ehole. But the fact that there’s not even that, he clearly doesn’t think he did anything wrong. So I guess there’s not much to say.”

Stroll’s Refusal to Apologize Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo

Rather than acknowledging his mistake, Stroll pointed the finger at Ricciardo and the cars in front. Over team radio, he called the Australian driver an “idiot” before diving into the pits. His refusal to take responsibility surprised many, especially given the severity of the collision.

Daniel Ricciardo, who was not deemed at fault in the incident, expressed his frustration. While Stroll received a penalty, Ricciardo’s disappointment stemmed from the lack of an apology. The collision had serious consequences for Ricciardo’s race, and the absence of remorse from Stroll made matters worse.
