Chelsea, the Premier League side is reportedly in the grasp of the deadly coronavirus as eight players are in self-isolation.
Eight Chelsea players are currently quarantined. As per the reports, some of them have also tested positive. The players underwent coronavirus test following their arrival at the training camp at the end of last week.
Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic and Fikayo Tomori are all quarantined and abiding the guidelines issued by the Government. They were holidaying in Mykonos, the Greek islands.
Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Emerson and Michy Batshuayi are also reported to be in mandatory 10-day self-isolation as announced by the UK Government and would be staying away from Chelsea training base. Batshuayi was in Cannes, France while teammate, Jorginho was in Capri, Italy.
Chelsea players hit with coronavirus as concerns increase for Frank Lampard
Chelsea are not the only club to be dealing with the situation. COVID cases have also been recorded in other Premier League clubs with the likes of Sheffield United, West Ham and Brighton.
Fourteen COVID positive cases have been recorded in twelve clubs in England’s top-flight competitions. The cases are said to have peaked following the summer break.
Frank Lampard, the Chelsea boss is in mental turmoil following this incident. The pre-season preparations are disrupted as the new season commences from September 12.
The Blues’ manager, Frank Lampard side is set to guide his team to face Brighton in a friendly contest at Amex Stadium on Saturday. 2,500 spectators are expected to fill the stadium. However, the rules of social distancing would be maintained.
Oliver Dowden, the Culture Secretary discussed the restrictions and precautions. He announced,
“I know fans and their teams can’t wait to be reunited in stadia across the country, but it’s imperative we take a cautious and phased approach to get fans back in safely.”
Chelsea were able to finish fourth with 66 points behind Manchester United in the Premier League last season and secured the Champions League spot for the next edition. They also went on to the FA Cup Final and faced the rivals, Arsenal but they were defeated 2-1.
Chelsea are to begin their Premier 2020/21 campaign when they become the visitors and face Brighton.
