The much awaited undisputed super middleweight championship fight between Canelo Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) and Caleb Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) is closing in on a confirmed deal, with reports suggesting that the bout is targeted for a November date.

The fight was originally speculated to take place on 18th September, with Canelo placing his WBC, WBA (Super) and WBO belts against Plant’s IBF title, to determine the undisputed king at 168.

However, due to Plant’s fight purse demands became a throne on the progress of the negotiations towards confirming the bout. Back in June, the undefeated American revealed that he is hoping to secure somewhat north of $10 million from the fight.

I’m willing to fight Canelo on any date: Plant

Canelo Alvarez dominated former WBO super middleweight champ Billy Joe Saunders on 8th May.

There were initial rumours that the fight was falling through and Canelo was aiming to return to the light heavyweight division and challenge the WBA titlist Dmitry Bivol as his second option.

However, the latest reports coming from Mike Coppinger of ESPN claim that after the Bivol fight couldn’t be staged for September on the Mexican  Independence Day Weekend, Canelo turned his attention back on Plant and in talks with Premier Boxing Champions for a one-fight deal on Fox PPV.

Canelo, the number one pound for pound boxer in the world has his sight set on the undisputed championship at 168, and it is understandable as why after the Bivol fight gained no pace, the Mexican maestro will be turning his attention back to Plant and get the super middleweight crown.

“One that is absurd: If I get injured or sick, then he gets a late replacement for the same amount of guaranteed money, but if he gets sick or injured, then we gotta wait for him,” Plant had said to ESPN last month after his fight purse demands were not met, “… His bark is bigger than his bite.”

“We’ve been waiting for him to get done with his wedding, shooting his TV show, his golf tournament and now have tried to give him everything he wants and more to make this fight. I’m more than willing, able and ready to fight Canelo Alvarez on any date,” Plant had added.

The 28-year-old was last seen in action against Caleb Truax on 30th January at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, marking his third IBF title defence.
