Former Masters champion Zach Johnson had an eventful day at Augusta National during the 2024 Masters. After an unremarkable start, things took a dramatic turn on the par-3 12th hole.
Zach Johnson’s tee shot veered into the trees left of the green, forcing him to re-tee. His next shot missed to the right, leaving him with a challenging chip. The ball ended up six feet below the hole, resulting in a double bogey. But the frustration didn’t end there. Johnson missed the subsequent putt and tapped in for a triple bogey.
As he walked away from the green, Zach Johnson’s emotions got the better of him. Caught on camera, he appeared to say, “F–k off!” in response to the jeers from patrons behind the tee box. The video quickly circulated on social media, drawing attention to the golfer’s outburst.

Zach Johnson’s Explanation
When asked about the incident, Zach Johnson downplayed any animosity toward the spectators. He denied that his expletive was directed at them, stating, “I can’t hear the patrons, number one. Number two, I just made a triple bogey on the 12th hole that is going to make me miss the cut, which at the time I knew was pretty sensitive in the sense that I needed to keep making pars.”
He further clarified, “If I’ve said anything, which I’m not going to deny, especially if it’s on camera, one, I apologize, and two, it was fully directed towards myself entirely because I can’t hear anything behind me.”
Unfortunately for Zach Johnson, the day didn’t improve. He finished the round with a four-over 75, leaving him projected to miss the cut by one stroke. The 2023 Team USA Ryder Cup captain, who won the Masters back in 2007, faced disappointment as he failed to advance in the tournament.
