Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) will not face Mercito Gesta on January 28th and wants to focus on the agreed-upon mega-fight against Gervonta Davis on 15th April.
The Garcia vs Gesta 140 lb fight in January was originally going to serve as a ‘tune up’ fight for “King Ryan” before he takes on Davis, a fellow southpaw and of similar stature as well. However, Garcia has now decided to make up his mind and decided to pass the Gesta fight to head for “Tank” directly in April, as he revealed in a couple of recent posts on Twitter.
“Been thinking about it during the time they were figuring out this fight and I feel the fans and everyone who supports boxing have seen these tune ups already it’s time that we give the fans what they want. Also he requested the tune up not me so let him handle business. LETS GO,” Garcia wrote in a tweet.

“To hell with the adjustments. Bring Tank. Blow him in half!” he added in another.

Garcia and Davis have a deal in place to meet April 15th in Las Vegas in a main event broadcast live on Showtime PPV. The validation of the agreement was tedious but the negotiations were finally successful.
Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) , on the other hand, will still have to fight against Hector Luis Garcia on 7th January, which will also air on Showtime PPV.
January 28 will still remain an interesting day for boxing fans because there will always be the ‑70kg world championship which will be an opportunity for Jermell Charlo ( 35−1−1) to hand over his title of undisputed champion against to Tim Tszyu (21-0).
