18-year-old Kai Sotto, an NBA prospect from the Philippines has expressed his desire to create an academy for the young basketball players at Spooky Nook in Hamilton, Ohio.

Kai Sotto, the teenage Filipino center wants his academy stationed at the Spooky Nook Sports Champion Mill, the 1.3 million square foot indoor sports complex in the city of Hamilton, slated to be the largest sports complex in North America.
Towering at 7 feet and 3 inches, Sotto plays for NBA G-League Team Ignite and has chosen to name his academy “Kaiju”, a Japanese term which translates to monster, beast, or strange creature, which he youngster feels is a perfect representation of the academy which will strive to look for young talents in both USA and overseas.

“We hope to continue this trend in Hamilton, alongside the Kaiju Academy and other similar partners,” said Jim Launer, Spooky Nook Sports President.
“The Nook is known as a top-notch destination for clubs, tournaments and competitions nationally, and we hope to continue to grow that reputation in the international space,” Launer added.
Spooky Nook, currently under development at a former paper mill, will have over 20 basketball courts, soccer and football fields, as well as indoor track oval, rock climbing facility, batting cages and also accommodation for the trainees.
Pat Moeller, the Mayor of Hamilton also expressed his jubilance over the construction of the academy.
“The City of Hamilton congratulates Kaiju Academy and Spooky Nook Sports on their partnership. A partnership where the term ‘world-class’ comes to mind,” the Mayor said, “A world-class athlete creating a world-class academy at a world-class sports complex here in Hamilton.”
A former Philippines National Team member, Sotto has been garnering attention in the G-league. On Tuesday, the teenager scored five points and five rebounds in Team Ignite’s 113-107 thrashing of NBA G-League veterans in Walnut Creek, California.
With an aim to bypass college basketball, Sotto wants to join the NBA G League Elite Development Team in May in combination with other top prospects.
