NBA Playoffs Day 12 Review: Hawks, 76ers, and Jazz seal semis spot; Mavs take the lead again

Three of the first-round playoffs battles ended in Game 5 as Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, and Utah Jazz confirmed their progression into the conference semi-finals. Dallas Mavericks took the lead in the series once again over LA Clippers.

NBA Playoffs First Round

76ers 129-112 Wizards

Number one seed Philadelphia 76ers were able to thwart off Washington Wizards even without Joel Embiid, who missed out due to an injury.

The scoring responsibilities were well handled by Seth Curry and Tobias Harris by notching 30 and 28 points respectively.

Only 2 points separated both the sides at the halfway point, but the 76ers took the contest away across the third and fourth quarters.

Bradley Beal top scored in the contest with 32 points while Russell Westbrook chipped in with 24 of his own.

Knicks 89-103 Hawks

Trae Young returned to haunt the Knicks at the Madison Square Garden and finished the job in style to set Atlanta Hawks’ semifinal date with the 76ers.

The youngster tallied 36 points and 9 assists while Clint Capela was responsible for 15 rebounds.

The Knicks were unable to outscore their opponents across any quarter with a poor offensive performance.

Julius Randle registered 23 points and 13 rebounds to top score for the hosts.

Jazz 126-110 Grizzlies

Utah Jazz won their fourth straight game in the series to end it 4-1 over the Grizzlies. The hosts exploded in the very first quarter at the Vivint Arena by scoring 47 points and took a 20-point lead rightaway.

The scoring clinic was led by Donovan Mitchell, who posted 30 points and 10 assists. Rudy Gobert notched 23 points and 15 rebounds while Royce O’Neale and Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 17 points each.

For the Grizzlies, Ja Morant and Dillon Brooks both scores 27 points but it was not enough for a comeback in the series.

The number one seed in the Western Conference now await the winner between Dallas Mavericks and LA Clippers, who are in midst of a very tightly contested series.

Clippers 100-103 Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks avoided a third loss in a row to lead 3-2 in the hotly contested series. Luka Doncic, after struggling with nerve issues in Mavericks’ recent losses, stepped up to slam 42 points, 14 assists and 8 rebounds for the win.

Three players from the Clippers were able to post over 20 points, but their fourth quarter charge was not enough as they fell behind by 5 points in the end.

Clippers now need to win both of the remaining matches to at least reach where they had finished last year.
