Naomi won her previous US Open title after beating Victoria Azarenka. She made it to the history of being the first woman since 1994 who won the title having rallied from the set down.

It will not be easy for her to land another Grand Slam title as bets are also being placed on Wimbledon’s winner Ashleigh Barty for dethroning Naomi.

There are so many things that I want to fix before New York: Naomi Osaka

Although her home favourite, Naomi could not win a medal for her nation at the Games, she remained positive. The loss made her realize that there are a lot of things that she needed to fix in her game and she cannot take the risk of participating in the US Open without ironing out those kinks.

“I know there are a lot of things I need to fix within my game, so in a weird way I’m kind of glad that I lost because there are so many things that I want to fix before New York.”

Naomi mentions how staying positive helps her to improve her game.

“I feel like my level is not that far off…if I want to keep being more positive with myself, I need to think about the things that I could improve on. There are definitely a lot of things.”

Earlier, the media was doing rounds about Naomi opting out of the French Open and refusing to speak to the media due to her mental health. She proposed that athletes are human and they can also have their bad days and they should be able to a break from answering media questions.

“I felt like it was something I needed to do for myself. I’m proud of what I did and I think it was something that needed to be done. Sometimes we feel like really sad, and I feel like maybe there should be a rule that we could maybe take a sick day from (answering questions).”
