The Colts-Packers clash at the Lucas Oil Stadium finished 31-31 after the 4th quarter as the game headed for OT. Valdes-Scantling, who received three catches for 55 receiving yards, caught the ball from Aaron Rodgers on second-and-2 from the Packers’ 30-yard line in the overtime.

Unfortunately, Colts safety Julian Blackmon was quick enough to smack Valdes-Scantling’s right hand, who dropped the ball and lost it against defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, moments before a 39-yard field goal from Rodrigo Blankenship turned the tide of the match for the hosts.

However, the real kicker for MVS came after the match, as he reported receiving death threats for his overtime fumble with the ball.

“Death threats over a football game? Jesus you people need help. It’s actually sick. I’m good. My team got my back,” tweeted Valdes-Scantling.

The 26-year-old made another tweet before, admitting his mistake: “Thank You God. Without failure there is no growth.”

Notably, MVS received support from Aaron Rodgers as well as Packers coach Matt LaFleur despite his fumble after the match.

“I have a lot of love for Marquez,” Rodgers said, “I see the guy every single day, see how much he cares about it. It happens, unfortunately. A lot of it is fundamentals, carrying the ball, but I’ve had my fair share of fumbles.”

“I know he’s really hurting right now,” LaFleur had a similar assertion. “He made so many plays for us and not only in the pass game but in the run game, stuff that you guys probably don’t even notice that we’re not getting the yardage that we get if he’s not blocking his a** off.”

Marquez Valdes-Scantling is on his third season with the Packers, after he was picked in round 5 of the 2018 NFL draft from the South Florida Bulls.

Despite losing the Colts game by an inch, Packers (7-3) remain at the top of NFC North and are still on the run for the playoffs.
