The Kansas City Chiefs’ prolific duo of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce recently surpassed the former Patriots and Buccaneers legends in the NFL playoffs during their 27-24 divisional-round win over the Buffalo Bills.
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce set new record
Mahomes and Travis Kelce joined forces on their 15th touchdown pass on a 22-yard strike during the second quarter which equaled them with Brady and Gronkowski for the most touchdowns by a single duo in NFL playoff history. It was followed up with a connection to kickoff the third quarter, putting themselves at the top of the list with their 16th postseason TD.

In the score, a three-yard catch in which Kelce fought across the line near the pylon, gave Kansas City a three-point lead in the third quarter which helped them emerge victorious for a sixth consecutive trip to the AFC Championship Game.
“Patrick and Kelce, with the record that they broke there with Gronk and Tom. I mean, that was a great job there,” head coach Andy Reid said after the game.
Brady and Gronkowski weren’t the only NFL legends Mahomes and Kelce passed on the play. It has been noted that Travis Kelce with his 18 postseason catches in the postseason is only behind Hall of Fame wideout Jerry Rice, who caught 22 touchdowns in the playoffs. Mahomes now has 38 career postseason touchdown passes, tying him with Super Bowl XLIV MVP Drew Brees for sixth all-time.
It is needless to mention that the duo is eyeing their third Super Bowl win since 2020. Before that, Travis Kelce and Mahomes need to beat Buffalo while recording the franchise’s first playoff road win since January of 2016.
While the offense has been remarkable for the Chiefs, they have had some injury concerns on defense. Safety Mike Edwards is out with a concussion and linebacker Willie Gay is questionable with a neck injury.
