Mercedes racer Lewis Hamilton has tallied his 100th career win after he captured the Formula One Russian Grand Prix at Sochi Autodrom. Lewis Hamilton simply astonished the viewers after reaching the chequered flag first as long-time race leader Lando Norris experienced a disaster. His McLaren spun off in heavy rain and it was Max Verstappen who got the benefit to makes his epic comeback from the back of the grid to secure the second spot.
Lewis Hamilton wins 100th F1 GP
The pole-sitter Norris was heading towards his maiden F1 win after re-overtaking Carlos Sainz but it was Hamilton who came cruising through after a decent start. But the rain struck race saw a catastrophic moment for the McLaren racer. Rain poured with eight laps to go and eventually got heavier. Norris opted to stay on his slick tyres while Hamilton and the majority of the field opted for intermediates.

This decision of Norris turned out to have costed the race for him as he could not control his McLaren in the conditions, thus spinning off into the barriers. Hamilton was then there to capitalise.

Following the race Lewis Hamilton said: “Going to bed last night, I wasn’t happy with what I had done. I watched the race again and again and there were subtle mistakes but came determined to do the best I could. Lost a lot of ground in the start but hung on. Obviously Max did a great job to finish second from last.
“Would have been tough to overtake Lando, he was fast and wasn’t making any mistake. But then the rain came and the team did a great job. Delighted with the point.”
While an emotional Norris after the race said: “I’m unhappy, devastated in a way.It was my decision, I thought it was the way to go.”
