Fans will be seeing Max Verstappen start at the back of the grid for the Russian Grand Prix. He had already received three grid place penalties as he was found guilty for the crash that happened at the Italian Grand Prix that took place earlier this year. The crash that had taken down both Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton out of the race caused some irreparable damage to Max’s car and Red Bull had no choice but to ignore the rules of F1 and provide a change of engine.
According to the rules of F1, there is a limit to how many components a driver can demand or have during the race. But Red Bull had to provide an extra engine at Sochi for Max to continue in the race.
This has put Max Verstappen at an utter disadvantage and is a golden opportunity for Lewis Hamilton to take the lead and come back with the trophy. The seven-time world champion was trailing five points behind Max and fans think it will not take long for Lewis to catch up to Max.
Lewis Hamilton: It’s definitely a shame for him and we’ve got to try and capitalise on that
Lewis Hamilton plans to be professional despite everything. He definitely feels sorry for Max but he and his team will not let it this opportunity go to waste.
“It doesn’t really change anything for us. We just have to do our thing and focus on moving forwards. It’s a tough year for everyone with reliability. It’s definitely a shame for him and we’ve got to try and capitalise on that and get a maximum result, a one-two would be spectacular for us as a team.”
He is satisfied with the first practice session, but he is worried about the weather. The weather forecast states that it might rain on the day of the event.
“We have some work to do on the long run and tomorrow will be raining a lot.” [H/T Sky Sports]
Max also opted for a change of engine this time. He received a fourth internal combustion engine (ICE) MGU-K, MGU-H, turbocharger, control electronics and a third energy store.
