The Argentinian, who led the club back into the Premier League a year and a half ago, has not been able to resist a series of poor results. It was a case of “I don’t know what to do,” as the club’s manager, Marcelo Bielsa, said in a statement on Sunday: “I don’t know what to do. The club announced the sacking of the Argentinian coach on Sunday after another heavy defeat (0-4) the previous day against Tottenham.

Bielsa’s work at Leeds honoured

The former Olympique de Marseille coach arrived in the north of England at the start of the 2018-19 season and led Leeds back into the top flight the following season, as well as inspiring the Premier League last year by guiding his team to ninth place

On Sunday, the Peacocks’ directors were keen to pay tribute to the former coach first: “He transformed the team on the pitch from the moment he arrived in 2018. Bielsa succeeded where his predecessors had failed, leading the club to the Sky Bet Championship title, winning the division by 10 points, which saw the club promoted to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years. However, it proved to be a difficult season and the team only recorded five Premier League wins.”

In its statement, Leeds United also spoke to its chairman, Andrea Radrizzani, who admitted he had made a difficult decision: “With Marcelo as head coach, we had three incredible seasons and the good times returned to Elland Road. He changed the culture of the club and brought a winning mentality to all of us,” before justifying the Argentine’s departure. “However, I have to act in the best interests of the club and I believe a change is needed to secure our Premier League status.  Recent results and performances have not met our expectations. We find ourselves in a precarious position in the league and I believe it is the right time to bring in a new head coach to make an impact in the decisive phase of the season.” Indeed, the season is in full swing and this is the time to bet to make the most of it. How about taking advantage of the Coral promo code to bet and experience the thrill of the games? Plus Leeds might just surprise us at the end of the season!

Jesse Marsch as a replacement ?

After listing several coaches, Leeds have reportedly set their sights on Jesse Marsch, according to The Telegraph. The former RB Leipzig coach, who was sacked after only a few months in charge of the German club, is actively looking for a new club to coach. The former American midfielder, who has been linked with a move to Bordeaux (for example), could soon find a new club after his failure in Germany.

However, Leeds are not the only club interested in Marsch. Athletic Bilbao are reportedly ready to pounce if there is a change of coach at the Basque club. It remains to be seen who will take the decision to sack their coach first.

How will Bielsa’s future ?

“I have serious doubts about the future of professional football, because it is constantly being commercialised and the product is getting worse and worse. It makes me very sad to see how football is deteriorating”. His outspokenness at press conferences will be remembered, but for the moment there are no leads on a club that might welcome Bielsa. Let it be said, there is a good coach available on the market !
