Former UFC fighter Kay Hansen has opened up on a very dark phase of her upbringing- when she was a victim of rape and sexual assault by her own father, and how she found mixed martial arts as her escape.
Currently holding a record of 7-6, Hansen parted ways with the UFC last year and returned to Invicta FC- where she had fought eight times in the past. She had her last fight back in April 2022, and there is yet to be any update regarding her return to the cage.
However, in a recent post on Instagram as well as a 23-min mini-doc on YouTube, made in collaboration with Invicta FC, Hansen opened up about a very dark and troubled phase during her upbringing and ultimately had to terminate her relationship with her father.
“TW: mention of Rape & SA
This documentary was a big step for me, not necessarily as a fighter, but as a person. My successes and struggles have all been in the public eye for many years, but everyone has a story behind the scenes. I was raped/SA by my father as a teenager for years. Fighting/training was my escape, and the only form of reality I really had control over.”
“I am blessed to have made it and out to have the opportunity to create and rewrite my own story and mend what I did not break. With that being said, i am extremely happy with the way this documentary was approached and put together. Thank you to everyone who was involved.”
