A Revisit To The “Haunting” Patrick Mahomes Trade From 2017 That’s Still Biting Back The Buffalo Bills

The Kansas Chiefs traded up in the first round in the 2017 draft with the Bills and selected Patrick Mahomes. This changed the franchise for the next decade. In a resurfaced Tweet, it is noted that fans were not happy with the trade. Given Patrick Mahomes’ recent performance, it is understood why.

Patrick Mahomes has been on top of his game

Kansas City originally had the No. 27 overall pick in that 2017 draft and they had traded three picks to Buffalo to move up to No. 10 and select Patrick Mahomes. Since he became the Chiefs starter in 2018, Kansas City led the league in points per game (30.4), yards per game (402.6) and yards per play (6.28) — also having the best record in the NFL with a 54-16 mark.

It is noted that Kansas City hasn’t won fewer than 12 games in a season under Mahomes, reaching the Super Bowl twice and winning Super Bowl LIV in the 2019 season. Mahomes leads the NFL in passing yards (20,105), passing touchdowns (166), and touchdown to interception differential (+128) — all while having the highest passer rating in league history at 106.6.

Back in 2017, one of the fans had reacted to the trade and was not impressed with the move. Check out the reaction below:

Another heartbreak for the Buffalo Bills

On Sunday night, the Bills had an opportunity to tie the AFC divisional playoff, but Tyler Bass missed a 44-yard field goal with 1:43 remaining. The outcome of 27-24 was essentially settled, sending Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to Baltimore for their sixth straight trip to the AFC Championship.

The Bills have not only relinquished the opportunity to pursue the unattainable goal of winning the team’s first Super Bowl, but they will also have to endure another offseason filled with regrets after a loss that may have gone their way.
