There is no lacking in the respect and reputation Nate Diaz has earned inside the Octagon, but when the applaud comes straight from the coach of one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, that takes it up a notch.

Firas Zahabi, who has been the mentor of Georges St-Pierre and a driving force behind during his dream run in the UFC, has addressed Nate Diaz as the scariest street fighter in the sport of MMA.

Zahabi believes Nate Diaz can beat “99% of fighters” if there is no time limit

With 20 wins and 13 losses in his professional career, Nate may not have the cleanest MMA record, but one thing that makes him stand apart, is the number of times his opponents had to go the distance to defeat the Stockton man.

Out of his 13 defeats, Nate has been submitted only once and knocked out twice, while more than half of his wins have come from submissions.

Firas Zahabi, GSP’s coach recently made an appearance on the Tristar Gym YouTube channel for a Q&A session, when the Canadian lauded Nate for his hardiness inside the cage and believes without the constraints a time limit, the 36-year-old would overpower almost anyone.

“If you put (Nate Diaz) in a fight where there is no time limit, I think he beats 99 percent of fighters,” said Zahabi, “You can’t sub him. You can’t finish him. The guy doesn’t stop walking forward. He puts volume on you. He is the scariest, in my opinion, street fighter in MMA.”

In his most recent Octagon appearance against Leon Edwards at UFC 263 on 12th June, the fight had gone the distance with Edwards winning via unanimous decision. But, Zahabi believes that if there was no time limit, Nate would eventually walk out as the winner.

“I think if you had to fight him in the street, man, you are in a fight for your life. Ain’t going to be no judges standing you up between rounds. There’s no judge to come and give you the win. No, no. This guy ain’t going away. I think if he had a no time limit fight with Leon Edwards, he beats Leon Edwards – and I have a tremendous admiration for Leon Edwards,” he added.
