Ghost from the past: Dele Alli’s Real move in jeopardy over his 2017 comments

With Real Madrid and Florentino Perez looking to usher in a new era of Galacticos in the coming decade, there has been a massive movement of players in and out of the Spanish capital.

The biggest news obviously remains the loan spell of Gareth Bale to Tottenham  Hotspurs, which is an excellent arrangement for all the parties concerned. And while earlier the speculations were rife that it will be a like for like signing with Dele Alli moving to Los Blancos for a 1-year loan spell, it now seems that Real have distanced themselves from the aforementioned move.

And the prime reason being-Zinedine Zidane.

Real
The feud

The hattrick that could have been-

The entire feud starts in 2017, in a champions league fixture which saw a 3-1 victory for Tottenham against Real Madrid.

Dele Alli proved to be the star campaigner courtesy of a well earned (though Zidane would disagree) brace that proved to be too much for Los Blancos to overcome.

Expectedly, Alli, who was on cloud nine after the match claimed that he could have had a hattrick in the match.

“I’m disappointed I didn’t get the hat-trick to be honest. I had an easy chance at the end from a great ball in by Kieran.”

We spoke about it after the first game, we couldn’t believe the space we had at times at their place. We don’t want to just compete with these teams we want to beat them.”

The entire interview wasn’t really music to the Madrid coach’s ears who didn’t really think the brace to be all that impressive, given that he considered the first one to be an offside and the second one was a deflection off Sergio Ramos.

And while the reports claim this to be the primary reason for Real Madrid not being too keen on Alli,  the fact remains that Zidane is a master tactician and had he seen the 24 year to be a useful addition to his squad, he would have definitely put aside this feud.

There is also the matter of Real Madrid vying for Kylian Mbappe come 2021 and given that the French talisman is on the radar of all football biggies, Real would love to save as much on wages as they can as of now.

And hence, for now, it seems that Dele Alli would have to ply his trade somewhere else with a Madrid move not being a reality in the near future.

Real Madrid and the road ahead-

Los Blancos while having won the La Liga last season are still far from the dominating force they once were in European football and as of now their title seems more of a Barcelona fall than a Real rise.

If they are to once again be the potent force they like to be, they need a marquee signing, a talisman, a Galactico, a to be GOAT.

And right now, that search only leads to one person-Kylian Mbappe.
