Except for his sole career defeat against Floyd Mayweather, Canelo Alvarez has remained invincible inside the squared circle and has reached undisputed status in the super-middleweight division, where he has settled since December last year. However, his former middleweight rival and one of the greatest of this generation, Gennadiy Golovkin, has been hinting towards a trilogy fight and recently revealed that he knows the “secret” to beat Canelo.

Canelo has secrets against me, I have secrets against him: Gennadiy Golovkin opens up on possible trilogy

Canelo Alvarez vs Gennadiy Golovkin remains one of the most followed rivalries in modern professional boxing. Two of the best boxers of this generation battled it out twice in the past when Canelo was a middleweight, with the first encounter ending in a draw and the Mexican picking up a win in the rematch.

Golovkin and Canelo first crossed paths on 16th September 2017 when “GGG” was the reigning WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, and IBO middleweight world champion. However, the fight ended in a controversial split decision draw and the two had their rematch a year later, with Canelo winning the WBA (Super), WBC, and IBO belts via majority decision, giving Golovkin his sole career defeat so far.

Soon after the Golovkin rematch, Canelo jumped to super-middleweight and after a couple bouts back in middleweight as well as light heavyweight, the Mexican settled down at 168 and gradually earned the undisputed championship earlier this month and is expected to face WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu, while Golovkin is set to put up his IBF and IBO middleweight titles to face WBA (Super) champion Ryota Murata on 29th December.

In a recent interview with The Sun, Golovkin said that he knows Canelo’s secret but would rather demonstrate than reveal it out openly while acknowledging that the trilogy still remains one of the most anticipated fights of modern boxing.

“Of course there is a secret. But it’s not the kind of secret you talk about, that’s the secret you demonstrate. The right publicity should be done, the organizers should make it happen and I’m sure Canelo has secrets against me, I have secrets against him,” said Golovkin, “we all have keys to the victory and the only way to see if those keys fit the lock is to have this fight, to make it happen. “This fight should be publicized in the right way, it should bring a lot of interest for everyone. Because, let’s be honest, it’s one of the – if not the most – sought after fight even though it will be our third fight.

“The demand to see this fight is probably the biggest among all potential fights that might be available.  If he fights this guy, fights someone else and in the middle we get together, that will not be the right approach. But if the fight is promoted the right way, then of course there will be an interest in organizing that,” he added. [H/T Boxing Scene]
