Reigning WBA (Super) Light Heavyweight world champion Dmitry Bivol, who marked the most important win of his career against Canelo Alvarez back in May, will be back in action against another Mexican pugilist, the undefeated Gilbert Ramirez in Abu Dhabi on 5th November.
Dmitry Bivol will defend his WBA ‘Super’ title for the fifth timeÂ
The news of the fight was broken out first by Mike Coppinger of ESPN. The fight was under negotiation for weeks and was followed by the WBA giving Ramirez the green signal to be the mandatory for Bivol’s 175-pound title.
“Dmitry Bivol and Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez have agreed to a deal for a WBA light heavyweight title fight that will take place Nov. 5 in the United Arab Emirates, the organization announced. Bivol coming off upset victory over Canelo Alvarez,” tweeted Coppinger.

Two and a half years after retiring from 175 pounds, Canelo returned to the ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada on 7th May. Against Sergey Kovalev in November 2019, the Mexican won via knockout in the 11th round, winning the WBO belt in the process. Canelo then vacated his 175-pound belt to storm through the 168-pound division and become the four-belt champion.

A former WBO super middleweight titleholder, Ramirez is coming off of a 4th round knockout win over Dominic Boesel on 14th May in Ontario. The ‘Zurdo de Oro (Golden Southpaw)’ made his light heavyweight debut back in April 2019 against Tommy Karpency, followed by winning the NABF title at 175 against Alfonso López in 2020 December.
